This fall the Frist Center for the Visual Arts will offer a variety of exciting public programming in conjunction with the exhibition 30 Americans. Highlights include Artist's Perspective lectures by Hank Willis Thomas and Nina Chanel Abney, two of the artists featured in 30 Americans. Also, in partnership with Vanderbilt University's Office of Community, Neighborhood, and Government Relations, the Frist Center will host a special three-part lunch and lecture series presented by Vanderbilt professors and guest panelists. Titled 'Food for Thought: Visualizing America through Art by African American Artists and Norman Rockwell,' the series will explore issues such as the U.S. civil rights movement and how historical events have shaped visual as well as social culture.

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts will present 30 Americans, an exhibition surveying works by many of the nation's leading African American artists working since the mid-1970s. Often provocative and challenging, the exhibition explores how artists relate their own sense of self to ideas within history, popular culture and contemporary mass media central to American society. 30 Americans will be on view in the Center's Ingram Gallery from Oct. 11, 2013 through Jan. 12, 2014.
Silver Pictures and Studiocanal announce the start of principal photography of the international action thriller THE GUNMAN. Starring Sean Penn, the project unites the two time Academy Award winning actor with an extraordinary, unconventional ensemble cast including Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca. Directed by acclaimed French helmer Pierre Morel, the compelling script is written by Peter Travis and is based on the novel The Prone Gunman by Jean-Patrick Manchette. Joel Silver and Andrew Rona are producing through Silver Pictures, with Sean Penn. The film is fully financed by Studiocanal who handles worldwide sales and will distribute it in its four territories. It is the second collaboration this year between Silver Pictures and Studiocanal after NON-STOP. THE GUNMAN will shoot mainly in Barcelona, Spain and London.

Wingspan Pictures' President Rachel Diana and CEO K. Rocco Shields announced today the appointment of Executive Producer Franco Sama of Samaco Films as Executive in Charge of Motion Pictures and Television. Sama is the latest addition to Wingspan's successful production team.
Sama is a seasoned producer whose recent films include 'Guns, Girls & Gambling' starring Gary Oldman and Christian Salter, and 'Petunia' starring Thora Birch, Christine Lahti and Brittany Snow.

Among the first projects Sama will executive produce for Wingspan is 'Love Is All You Need.' 'Love' is based on a short film of the same name that went viral on the internet, garnering more than three million hits. Attached to star are teen heartthrob Kellan Lutz (Twilight Series) and four time 'Young Artist Award' nominee Camilla Belle. Currently in pre-production, 'Love' is scheduled to begin shooting this fall.
