WOW FILMS and ASD Media & Entertainment are pleased to announce that their short film, HIDING IN DAYLIGHT, has been selected to screen at the prestigious American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the world renowned Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2019. After a run of ten weeks that presented 130 one-person theatre productions from six continents, the world's largest solo theatre festival concluded its ninth season at Theatre Row on 42nd Street in New York by presenting this year's awards. On behalf of the United Solo Academy, Omar Sangare, the artistic director of the festival, presented the United Solo Special Award to Renee Taylor for her solo show "My Life on a Diet." In her acceptance speech, Ms. Taylor said: "I'm very grateful for receiving an award from Untied Solo - it's a very prestigious honor" and added "I'm very happy to be touring the country with 'My Life on a Diet' - and now I can say I am an award-winning show!"
Following the success of the premiere performance in October, we are pleased to announce an encore performance. Coming up in the United Solo Theatre Festival at Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street, New York City, November 15th, 7:30 pm
The United States, above all other countries, is beset with an epidemic of random killing, usually by a weapon which seems to have held a mythic aura in the American psyche since the arrival of the first Europeans. The gun is the weapon of choice for Americans who want to do harm, especially semi-automatic assault rifles which can be modified to be even deadlier than their makers' intentions. Most of us are exposed to the biggest massacres through the major media, the most recent of which are listed in the footnote below. If the scope, circumstances, and number of dead and wounded are not sufficiently shocking, it is important to know that multiple and mass shootings, if not consistently a daily occurrence, occur regularly several times a week. These are only reported locally, because the limited body counts don't merit national attention. Only a few days passed without an incident during the month of September, 2018, and not seldom multiple mass shootings occurred in one day, as one can see on Gun Violence Archive. It is only too true that we are living in an age of random, senseless mass murders.
Theater and film meet when the LGBT dystopian tale 'Hiding in Daylight' starts filming in September in New York State. Playwright Gregory G. Allen wrote the story as both a one act play and a screenplay. After filmmaker Cheryl Allison read the script, she knew she wanted to make the film. Casting has been announced with Gerald McCullouch, Judy McLane, Julee Cerda, and Gary Hilborn starring in the ensemble piece.
Allison's film company WOW Films and Allen's company ASD Media & Entertainment have co-produced the upcoming short with producer Carina Rush and Allison will direct. It will hit the festival circuit in 2019.
