The Australian Ballet's most ambitious production ever staged is coming to Brisbane: David McAllister's The Sleeping Beauty announced for 2017

BWW Sydney attended the announcement of the 2016 HELPMANN AWARDS NOMINATIONS at Sydney Theatre Company's Wharf 2 Theatre.

PHANTOM fans, Andrew Lloyd Webber's sequel is nigh! As of last fall, the rumored 2017 North American production of LOVE NEVER DIES had 'no set tour.' But now the legendary composer has revealed in a feature for BuzzFeed that the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA follow-up will 'make its way to Washington, D.C. next year.'

Brisbane's own Kate Miller-Heidke brings her brand new, uniquely Australian opera, The Rabbits, a co-production between Opera Australia and Barking Gecko Theatre Company to the Playhouse, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) for a strictly limited season from 17 to 20 March 2016. 

Melbourne Theatre Company opens its 2016 season in glittering fashion with the glorious new musical Ladies in Black, a celebration of glamour, gowns and growing up in 1950s Australia. Adapted from the Madeleine St John novel, The Women in Black, and brought to life by director Simon Phillips with songs by Tim Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House), this QTC production opens on Wednesday 20 January at Southbank Theatre, The Sumner.

Take an Italian opera and set it in the Australian outback in 1915, and the result is a witty and fun rendition of some of Donizetti's most glorious music. Earning 4 stars from The Sydney Morning Herald, this crowd pleaser is a must for both first time opera goers and seasoned opera lovers.

Die zahlreichen prominienten Premierengaste zeigten sich begeistert, die Pressestimmen waren allerdings durchaus gemischt. Unter dem Titel LOVE NEVER DIES hatte das Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical seine Urauffuhrung 2010 in London. Die Produktion, die nun in deutscher Übersetzung in Hamburg zu sehen ist, basiert auf der Melbourner Inszenierung von 2011.

Just when you think you are Sleeping Beautied out, along comes another production. This one however, is being produced on the other side of the world by the Australian Ballet. That's a long way to travel to see something you've already encountered in 500 other productions. On the other hand, why not? I'd never been to Australia and needed a vacation. So a 27-hour flight didn't seem to faze me. Plus, I would see a company that was almost totally unknown to me. I'd seen them on You Tube and was highly impressed. I missed them in New York, so this would be my chance not only to see the company, but Australia! Of course, there were other reasons. Like a great love I had in college 40 years before and had left because he wanted me to move to Melbourne with him. And I was going to meet him again! So if you combine the meeting of a past love and a new Sleeping Beauty, the combination was almost irresistible, at least to me. (I'm told that my brain works in peculiar ways, and this was definitely one of them!) So I booked a flight and in two days I was transported to one of the loveliest cities imaginable. And I could have been there 40 years earlier!

Since then an official site for the tour has gone up, but don't get too excited. Rick Miramontez, spokesman for ALW, has since given the following statement: 'Everyone at Really Useful Group is excited about the prospects of 'Love Never Dies' coming to America, but there is no set tour at present.'
