Today in 1940, three time Tony Award-winner Frank Langella was born. Langella won his first Tony Award for his performance in Edward Albee's Seascape and 1975 and was nominated for another for what may have been the performance for which he was best known for in the early part of his career: the title role of the 1977 Broadway production of Dracula. He then appeared on Broadway in such plays as Sherlock's Last Case, Strindberg's The Father (winning a Drama Desk Award), Match (Tony Award nomination), and Fortune's Fool, for which he won a second Tony Award. He was cast as Richard Nixon in Peter Morgan's Frost/Nixon, which received enthusiastic reviews during a run at the Donmar Warehouse and Gielgud Theatre in London before moving to New York's Bernard B. Jacobs Theater in April 2007, culminating in Langella's third Tony Award. He reprised the role of Nixon in the 2008 film Frost/Nixon, directed by Ron Howard.

Not to be outdone by their female counterparts, the men of Broadway can boast a banner year. On Monday, December 5, Tony and Golden Globe Award-winning actress and singer Linda Lavin celebrated the release of her new CD, 'Possibilities' (Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records) by gathering a few good friends to join her in concert on the Birdland stage. Lavin's special guests included Nancy Dussault, Brenda Pressley, Michael Esper & Kate Jennings-Grant, as well as Billy Stritch (piano), Steve Doyle (bass) and Steve Bakunas (drums).

Sundance Institute announced today the films selected to screen in the out-of-competition Premieres and Documentary Premieres sections of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. Included in this year's line-up is Price Check, featuring Cheyenne Jackson, Parker Posey, and Annie Parisse.The Festival will be held January 19 through 29 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Chumley, M.D.) starring in a new Broadway production of the Pulitzer Prize winning comedy Harvey by Mary Chase and directed by Scott Ellis.

Stephanie J. Block, who has been filling in for Sutton Foster in ANYTHING GOES, has officially departed the production. Foster, who was filming the television pilot, Bunheads for the past 3 weeks, returned as Reno Sweeney on November 25.
