The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will produce, in association with La Jolla Playhouse, a re-imagining of Henry Krieger and Bill Russell's Side Show. Directed by Academy Award winning director Bill Condon, the musical will play at La Jolla Playhouse November 5 through December 17 and will play the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater in spring 2014, according to an equity casting notice. The musical features book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Henry Krieger who will revise the show before its debut at La Jolla.

Uptown Players, a professional theater group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its 2014 season at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, which will feature the regional premieres of the 2013 Tony Award winning play, Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike, the 2012 Tony nominated play The Lyons, the 2004 Tony award winning musical, The Boy From Oz, plus the return of an audience favorite, Pageant. Uptown Players will also present its annual fundraising performance - Broadway Our Way, which will be held in January 2014. In April, Uptown Players will join forces with the Turtle Creek Chorale for a concert version of Sweeney Todd at the City Performance Hall. Pageant, the Musical will have industry readings presented by Shea Sullivan May 1st in New York under the direction of Christopher Gattelli. Conceived by Robert Longbottom, book and lyrics by Bill Russell and Frank Kelly, and music by Albert Evans, this musical is described as 'Miss America meets Priscilla Queen of the Desert.'

You may not have heard yet, but one of the biggest beauty pageants in the world, Miss Glamouresse, is coming to Atlanta, and the theater-going public will soon have the unique chance to witness the glitz and glamour themselves in Pageant: The Musical (Book and Lyrics by Bill Russell and Frank Kelly, Music by Albert Evans), playing at the 14th Street Playhouse beginning August 25th. This hilarious send-up of the beauty pageant world has all the things you might expect, evening gowns, swimsuits, talent, spokes-modeling and even beauty crisis counseling. But when the contestants take the stage you may be surprised to see that these "girls" have, as Frankie Cavalier the emcee puts it, a little "something extra". I had the unique opportunity to speak with one of the 6 contestants themselves, Miss Great Plains (Dustin Smith, also co-producer), to get the inside scoop on the pageant and even test her question and answer skills.
