The new Philly POPS BIG Band will perform its first two shows on July 4 during the Wawa Welcome America Festival. At 10 a.m., the ensemble will play at the City of Philadelphia's July 4 Celebration of Freedom ceremony and parade on Independence Mall. At 7 p.m., the BIG Band will open the city's Wawa Welcome America July 4th Concert and fireworks show on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. NBC10 and Telemundo62 will televise both performances.

The Salute Series includes large-scale, free performances on Memorial Day, July 3 on Independence Mall, July 4 at Philadelphia's Independence Day morning ceremony and evening concert, Veterans Day ceremonies at several locations throughout the city, and December's Third Annual Comcast NBCUniversal I'll Be Home for Christmas: A Salute to the Military and First Responders benefit concert. Salute performances recognize the sacrifice of those dedicated to a collective identity of American values and tradition, often in locations of particular resonance to those who attend. Salute concerts feature the presentation of the colors, the Star Spangled Banner and other patriotic music. Over 50,000 are expected to attend Salute Series events in 2016-17 — the largest audience for any Philly POPS concert series.

On Memorial Day weekend, the POPS and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts will present Memorial Salute, Philadelphia's first major Memorial Day concert. The concert, on Saturday, May 28 at 7p.m., will honor the American tradition of service and celebrate all those who serve, with 2,000 complimentary tickets provided to veterans, active military, Philadelphia police officers and firefighters, and their families. Additional tickets have been made available to select School District of Philadelphia students, Boy and Girl Scouts.
