Michael Tilson Thomas And The New World Symphony Announce 2018-19 Year

In April 2018, the New World Symphony joined The Sphinx Organization and the League of American Orchestras in announcing their new partnership, the National Alliance for Audition Support (NAAS), which is a field-wide initiative with the long-term goal of increasing diversity in American orchestras. Supported by a four-year, $1.8 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Alliance offers a holistic and personalized array of support to Black and Latinx musicians to develop their audition skills, increase their participation in auditions, and ultimately, increase their representation in orchestras.

Colburn School, Celebrating 20 Years On Grand Avenue, Announces 2018–2019 Concerts And Events

On the 20th anniversary of its historic relocation to Grand Avenue, a move made possible through the generosity and vision of founding benefactor Richard D Colburn, that helped set in motion the development of Los Angeles's Downtown cultural corridor, the Colburn School will present a 2018-2019 season that brings together some of today's greatest international artists with extraordinary faculty members and exceptional Colburn School students.

Tangerine Reef is a full-length audiovisual album by Animal Collective (Avey Tare, Deakin and Geologist), in collaboration with Coral Morphologic, to commemorate the 2018 International Year of the Reef. Tangerine Reef is a visual tone poem consisting of time-lapse and slow pans across surreal aquascapes of naturally fluorescent coral and cameos by alien-like reef creatures (note: no CGI or artificial enhancement was used in this film). Tangerine Reef is the sight and sound of a literal underwater collective of animals.

Ensemble For The Romantic Century Announces Three Play Season of Off-Broadway Premieres

Ensemble for the Romantic Century (Eve Wolf, Executive Artistic Director) is proud to announce that the 2018-'19 season, ERC's 18th, will begin September 15th with Because I Could Not Stop: An Encounter with Emily Dickinson. Opening Night is set for September 27th. This limited Off-Broadway engagement runs through October 21st only. Performances will be in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between Dyer and 10th Avenues).

BWW Review: The Final Staging of Lucinda Childs' Iconic AVAILABLE LIGHT

Friday, July 13th 2018 was not unlucky for me. On that evening, I was fortunate enough to watch the final staging of legendary postmodern choreographer Lucinda Childs' Available Light at Jazz at Lincoln Center as part of the annual Mostly Mozart Festival during the Lucinda Childs Dance Company's final season. The work, last seen in NYC 33 years ago, is a collaboration among three distinguished artists: Childs, minimalist composer John Adams, and famed architect Frank Gehry.

Manchester International Festival and The Warehouse Project To Present SPECIAL EDITION

Manchester International Festival (MIF) are working with The Warehouse Project to stage four specially curated shows taking place across five nights in November. All performances take place at Manchester's immense Mayfield, a former railway station, where they last came together for the '10 x 10' weekend back in 2015.

New World Symphony Welcomes Carnegie Hall's NYO2 To Miami For First Residency

The New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy (NWS), is excited to welcome Carnegie Hall's NYO2 for their first-ever residency in Miami, July 16-21, 2018. NYO2 is an intensive summer orchestral training program that features some of the finest young instrumentalists from across the U.S. (ages 14-17), including several South Florida musicians this summer. The NWS and Carnegie Hall, two organizations with deep commitments to education and artist training, have partnered for the first year to provide unique opportunities for NYO2. The NYO2 program is an extension of Carnegie Hall's acclaimed NYO-USA (the National Youth Orchestra of the USA), for ages 16-19, and was created with a particular focus on attracting students from communities underserved by, and underrepresented in, the classical orchestral field.

Applications Now Open For National Competition For Visual, Literary, Design And Performing Arts

The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) has announced that applications to become a 2019 YoungArts winner will be accepted beginning today, June 5, through October 12, 2018. YoungArts identifies and nurtures the nation's most accomplished emerging artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts between the ages of 15 and 18 or in high school grades 10-12.

National Alliance For Audition Support To Launch With Three-Day Intensive

The National Alliance for Audition Support (NAAS) will launch its first activities aimed at increasing diversity in American orchestras with a three-day Audition Intensive, June 6-8 at the New World Center in Miami Beach, FL. Eighteen pre-to-early professional Black and Latinx string musicians have been selected by The Sphinx Organization to participate in the three-day Intensive.

Jason Tam Joins Cast of BE MORE CHILL

Broadway's Jason Tam joins the company of this summer's hotly anticipated musical Be More Chill. Assuming the role of 'The Squip,' Tam joins previously announced cast members from the 2015 Two River Theater production and original cast recording including Gerard Canonico (Spring Awakening, Groundhog Day) as Rich, Katlyn Carlson (Dirty Dancing, The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin) as Chloe, Stephanie Hsu (SpongeBob SquarePants) as Christine, Lauren Marcus (The Humans at St. Louis Rep, Company at Barrington Stage) as Brooke, and George Salazar (tick tick BOOM!, Godspell, The Lightning Thief) as Michael; as well as Will Roland (Dear Evan Hansen, The Black Suits) as Jeremy and Jason SweetTooth Williams (Freaky Friday, Benny and Joon, Bloodsong of Love) as Jeremy's Dad/Mr. Reyes.

The New York Philharmonic announces Foreign Bodies, a one-night-only multidisciplinary event conducted and hosted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, concluding his tenure as The Marie-Jos e Kravis Composer-in-Residence. The concert, Friday, June 8, 2018, at 8:00 p.m., will feature Esa-Pekka Salonen's Foreign Bodies, accompanied by the World Premiere of a live video installation by Tal Rosner; Dan el Bjarnason's Violin Concerto, with Pekka Kuusisto in his New York Philharmonic debut; and Obsidian Tear, a dance work choreographed by Wayne McGregor performed by members of the Boston Ballet (Philharmonic debut) and set to Mr. Salonen's Nyx and Lachen verlernt. Foreign Bodies will be casual and multi-sensory; drinks and conversation will flow as attendees mingle with the performers, who will give additional impromptu performances throughout the event.

Taylor Mac To Perform A 24-DECADE HISTORY OF POPULAR MUSIC In Its Entirety For Final Time At The Kimmel Center

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, in a co-presentation with Pomegranate Arts, is thrilled to announce the special guest artists who will perform in Taylor Mac's ambitious, internationally acclaimed work A 24-Decade History of Popular Music. Local Philadelphia performance artists and musicians will join Mac in these final U.S. performances of the full, 24-hour-long pop odyssey, June 2 & 9 at the Kimmel Center's Merriam Theater, as part of the 2018 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). Mac will perform A 24-Decade History of Popular Music as two distinct 12-hour concerts, Saturday, June 2 (1776-1896) and Saturday, June 9 (1896-present day) - Mac's longest continuous performances since the work premiered at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn in 2016.
