NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman announced the recipients of the 2011 NEA Opera Honors at a meeting of the National Council on the Arts, the NEA's advisory body on Friday, June 24, 2011. Now in its fourth year, the NEA Opera Honors is the highest award our nation bestows in opera.
This year's honorees are:
JACKASS FLATS Has World Premiere at Shadowland Theatre

The world premiere of the new comedy, 'Jackass Flats,' written by C.C. Loveheart and John Simon, opens tonight at upstate New York's Shadowland Theatre in Ellenville, site of the non-profit, Actors' Equity theater's first world premiere in 15 years.

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Opera Honors awards ceremony and concert was held on Friday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Center Opera House, Washington D.C. This year's honorees-soprano Martina Arroyo, general director David DiChiera, composer Philip Glass and music director Eve Queler-were acknowledged for their exceptional contributions to opera in America. Produced in cooperation with Washington National Opera and OPERA America, the NEA Opera Honors awards ceremony and concert was free and open to the public; approximately 2,000 people attended the event.

Scott Patterson to Star as 'Joe White' in WHITE'S LIES

Producers Aaron Grant, Jana Robbins & Jeremy Handelman have announced that SCOTT PATTERSON has been cast in the lead role of Joe White in WHITE'S LIES, a new comedy by Ben Andron & directed by Bob Cline, which is scheduled to open on April 12, 2010, at New World Stages. Grant, who produced the staged reading in September, 2009, is thrilled to have the former star of "Gilmore Girls" on board as Joe White. Mr. Patterson joins a cast that already includes Peter Scolari, Christy Carlson Romano & Jimmy Ray Bennett.

Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth will join mezzo-soprano opera singer Marilyn for the upcoming DAMES AT 'C' concert at Carnegie Hall. The concert series will take place January 22nd at 7:30pm. DAMES AT 'C' is part of Marilyn Horne's THE SONG CONTINUES... series taking place at Carnegie Hall January 19th through January 22nd.
Marc A Sorca To Lead Opera America Through 2016

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera, is pleased to announce that the contract of its president & CEO, Marc A. Scorca, has been extended through 2016. Anthony Freud, chairman of OPERA America's Board of Directors, announced the news at the organization's Annual Business Meeting, which took place during OPERA America's recent conference in Houston, Texas. During Opera Conference 2009, the Board of Directors also elected two new members to join its ranks: Gregory C. Swinehart and Darren K. Woods.
