American Classical Orchestra with Thomas Crawford Opening in September

On Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 8:00PM at Alice Tully Hall, the American Classical Orchestra, a 50-piece period instrument orchestra devoted to preserving and performing the repertoire of 17th, 18th and 19th century composers, presents its opening night concert of its 32nd Season. The program, which will be conducted by Thomas Crawford, will include Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3  'Scottish', Berlioz's Les nuits d'ete with mezzo-soprano Avery Amereau, and Cipriani Potter's Symphony No. 10.

Charles Dance to Be Honored at STC's 2016 Harman Center for the Arts Gala

To acknowledge his outstanding contribution to classical theatre in America, British actor Charles Dance will accept the Shakespeare Theatre Company's (STC) prestigious William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre (Will Award) at the Harman Center for the Arts Annual Gala on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St NW).

4th United Solo Europe Begins Next Week

For the fourth year in a row, the world's largest solo theatre festival will bring selected performances to Warsaw, Poland for its showcase, United Solo Europe. A different show will be presented each night June 27 - July 3 at Teatr Syrena, a premier theatre venue in downtown Warsaw. Diverse offerings include a movement show featuring poems about human anatomy, a concert by a Polish-Italian singer, and an improvised comedy with audience participation. The festival will culminate with an original solo dance show created by this year's special guests, dancers from the world-renowned Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch.

The Kennedy Center Sets Additional IRELAND 100 Programming

The comprehensive schedule of events highlights Ireland's rich cultural legacy and its major footprint in the fields of theater, literature, music, and dance. Taking place in the living memorial to President John F. Kennedy, the nation's most well-known Irish-American President and the first sitting President to visit Ireland, the festival is also part of a yearlong celebration at the Center marking the centennial of JFK's birth. Furthermore, IRELAND 100 is the centerpiece in the United States of the global commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising, a historic event that led to Ireland's independence.
