The Old Globe continues to make theatre matter to more people by welcoming everybody to enjoy a season of free performances, arts, crafts, and workshops on the Globe's Copley Plaza in Balboa Park. Over 16,000 people attended our free AXIS events in 2018 that featured music, dance, original plays from the community, mariachi concerts, jazz for kids, and annual sonnet reading to celebrate the birthday of our resident playwright, William Shakespeare. The 2018 AXIS season also included our first-ever sensory-friendly AXIS event with music and workshops during Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Today, North Carolina-based quintet Rainbow Kitten Surprise have announced additional dates for their wildly popular 2019 North American headline tour. The newly announced shows are highlighted by a west coast run of iconic venues, including Seattle's Paramount Theater, Portland's Roseland Theatre, Oakland's Fox Theater, and Los Angeles' Wiltern Theater. Presale begins on Wednesday, February 6th at 10am and ends on Thursday, February 7th at 10pm, with the general on-sale starting Friday, February 8th at 10am (all times local). The Puerto Rico-born, Bronx-bred choreographer and performer Marlyn Ortiz, along with choreographer Emmanuel E. Hernandez, directs an all-female cast of New York's hottest dancers, aerialists and comediennes in a show that sets traditional and neo-burlesque elements to Latin rhythms. The evening features the beautiful ladies of Bon Bon Burlesque, in addition to comedienne Lori Sommer, also known as "Madam Honey," singer Rachel Stern, also known as "Ray Ray Star," and Jose Mitaynes as "Manuel." The show includes songs such as La Lupe's "Latin Fever," Madonna's "Justify Your Love," and Esthero's "Wikked Lil' Girrrls."

17-year-old singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lola Bates debut album Red Hot is set for release March 29 on Human Made Records. The single ”Red Hot” was released last Friday on all digital platforms and the video release is set for wide release on February 12.
