Pianist Martin Berkofsky Performs at the Custom House Maritime Museum Tonight

New London Maritime Society is pleased to present virtuoso pianist Martin Berkofsky in concert at the Custom House Maritime Museum at 7 PM tonight, July 6, 2013. In a concert entitled Lighthouses as Beacons of Light & Hope, Mr. Berkofsky will perform two sonatas by Ludwig Von Beethoven and and a number of short works by Franz Liszt. The concert is a benefit; Mr Bekofsky is donating all monies from the performance to both the New London Maritime Society Lighthouse Fund and Amistad America, Inc. TheAmistad ship will be docked in New London that weekend as a part of the Society'sSentinels on the Sound - Lighthouse Todays, 10 Todays of waterfront activities in New London across the summer from July 6 through September 7, 2013. The concert will take place at the Custom House Maritime Museum, 150 Bank Street, New London, Connecticut. Seating is limited to 45. Tickets are $35, $25 for NLMS members. Call 860-447-2501 to reserve your seat.

Lincoln Center Announces 2013 White Light Festival Lineup, 10/24-11/23

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the roster for Lincoln Center's fourth multidisciplinary White Light Festival, October 24 through November 23, 2013. The Festival's focus is music's capacity to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives, with a particular emphasis this year on the power of the voice. Spanning numerous musical traditions, genres, and disciplines, the Festival will offer 23 performances, films, and events featuring seven premieres and debuts by artists and companies from more than a dozen countries, including France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the U.K., Mali, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Canada and the U.S. New to this edition of the Festival is White Light on Film, film screenings followed by discussions with their directors. Other Festival components include: a panel discussion focused on the subject of time, pre- and post-performance artist discussions, and the popular post-performance White Light Lounges.

Music Box Theatre to Screen Verdi Concert as Part of MusicEmotion Series, 6/23

The Music Box shows off the full power of its newly remodeled, state-of-the-art second screening room ("The Mini-Music Box") with MusicEmotion: Syphony in Cinema, a series of captured live musical matinees broadcast from Milan's renowned La Scala opera house for an Old World musical experience in high definition. First up: an open-air Verdiconcert, including his first hit opera Nabucco, staged at Austria's St. Margarethen Opera Festival. MusicEmotion's Verdi program Verdi premieres this Sunday, June 23, 11:30 a.m. at Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue. Solti Foundation Honors Young American Conductor James Feddeck and More

The Solti Foundation U.S. today recognized the talent of five distinguished young American conductors. James Feddeck, Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, is the recipient of the 2013 $25,000 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award. Vladimir Kulenovic, Ankush Kumar Bahl, Roger Kalia, and Christopher James Lees were all named as recipients of Solti U.S. Career Assistance Awards.

TOM GOLD DANCE to Perform at the Guggenheim Museum in June

Tom Gold Dance will perform as part of the Guggenheims Works and Process series on June 2nd and 3rd @ 7:30pm. In this interdisciplinary presentation that combines performing arts and science, New York Botanical Garden curator Dr. Michael Balick uses excerpts from theatrical performances to discuss the healing and harmful properties of plants and the use of plant-based remedies and poisons.

ROCO will present the Houston premiere of a commissioned double percussion concerto by internationally-acclaimed composer Jonathan Leshnoff, performed by percussionists Matt McClung and Todd Meehan. And in ROCO fashion, there will be a surprise or two!

BWW Reviews: Goode to Great: Orpheus Returns to Carnegie Hall

Felix Mendelssohn completed his Symphony Number 4 ('The Italian') in Berlin, in 1833, at the conclusion of a three year vacation/tour of Europe. He conducted the world premiere of the symphony himself in London that same year. Despite the symphony's rapturous success, the composer remained unhappy with the work till the day he died; even revising the piece at least twice and never publishing the final work. Talk about a perfectionist!

Soprano Joanna Mongiardo returns to the NJSO stage to perform the aria selections; Marcelo Lehninger conducts.

Ballet Philippines Opens A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Friday, 2/15
