Full Cast Announced for Florida Grand Opera's 2013-14 Season

Florida Grand Opera (FGO) announces its 73rd continuous season of grand opera featuring an innovative new vision with provocative repertoire under the direction of General Director and CEO Susan T. Danis. In addition to a wealth of exciting artists making their debuts with the company, the 2013-2014 season features: the Southeast American premiere of Marvin David Levy's Mourning Becomes Electra followed by Verdi's Nabucco, Puccini's Tosca, and Massenet's Thaïs.

In celebration of Asian Heritage month, the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee of Actors' Equity Association and ReImagined World Entertainment presented 'The Asian American Composers and Lyricists Project,' a free evening of original works created and sung by Asian American theatre artists. In celebration of Asian Heritage month, the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee of Actors' Equity Association and ReImagined World Entertainment will present 'The Asian American Composers and Lyricists Project,' a free evening of original works created and sung by Asian American theatre artists. ArtCenter/South Florida's new exhibition “Unpredictable Patterns of Behavior” opens June 5th at both its Richard Shack Gallery (800 Lincoln Road) and at Project 924 (located upstairs at 924 Lincoln Road) and will be on view from June 1-July 28, 2013. The opening reception is open to the public on Wednesday evening, June 5th from 6:00-10:00 p.m. (this is the first time ArtCenter has utilized both Lincoln Road spaces simultaneously).
Cleis Press & Viva Editions Appoints Brenda Knight as New Publisher

Felice Newman, CFO, Co-Founder and Co-Publisher of Cleis Press, based in Berkeley, CA, has announced that effective immediately, former Associate Publisher and Founder of Viva Editions, Brenda Knight, has been named Publisher of Cleis Press and Viva Editions. Both imprints are distributed by Publishers Group West. Newman will continue as CFO and Frederique Delacoste Cleis Co-Founder/Co-Publisher will remain President of Cleis Press and Publisher of Midnight Editions. Newman explained, "This is a new beginning for Cleis, a handing of the baton from two dedicated lifelong publishers to a talented and equally dedicated woman of exceptional integrity."

Hartt Honors Robert Brubaker '77 With 2013 Alumni Award

The Hartt School has announced that celebrated tenor Robert Brubaker '77 (Bachelor of Music) will be honored with the 2013 Hartt Alumni Award at the annual Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19. Mr. Brubaker has established himself as a leading tenor in opera companies throughout the United States and Europe, praised for the clarity and power of his voice and the impact of his acting. He has appeared at The Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburg Festival, Opera National de Paris, Covent Garden, Teatro alla Scala, and other major opera houses around the world. Mr. Brubaker, who will speak at Hartt's graduation ceremony, also will share his experiences and insights with students and other interested members of the University of Hartford community at Hartt's Paranov hour on April 25, from 12:15 PM to 1:05 PM, in Millard Auditorium.

Met Music Director James Levine will return to the Met podium for the first time in two years, conducting three operas with which he has long been associated: a new production of Verdi's final masterpiece Falstaff, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Berg's Wozzeck. A few weeks ago, after a sneak preview, I wrote that Million Dollar Quartet, 'based on its history and this 'sneak peek,' Million Dollar Quartet will be a major crowd-pleaser.' Well, it had its official opening at Harrahs in Las Vegas February 19 and, based on the performance and the crowd's reaction, it could run forever in Las Vegas.
