The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) hosted its Jubalee Gala July 21 at the Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, which included honoring The Chicago Community Trust and its President and CEO Terry Mazany with the JUBA! Award for Extraordinary Contributions to the Cultural Community in Chicago. Past JUBA! Award recipient, the Honorable Mayor Rahm Emanuel, served as Honorary Chair. With nearly 600 people in attendance, CHRP raised $175,000, including a $75,000 leadership gift from guests Philip and Marsha Dowd, from a combination of ticket sales, sponsorships, contributions and a raffle.  Following a preshow reception in CHRP's American Rhythm Center, guests gathered in the packed Studebaker Theater for the presentation of the JUBA! Award and the JUBA! Masters of Tap and Percussive Dance performance that highlighted CHRP's 27th annual Rhythm World summer festival. The concert featured Chicago Human Rhythm Project performing a world premiere by Artist In Residence Dani Borak and three classics by African-American choreographers Buster Brown, Lon Chaney and Harold 'Stumpy' Cromer; STOMP alumna and Broadway hoofer (Shuffle Along) Lisa LaTouche performing her masterpiece Love Me or Leave Me with Tre Dumas and Nico Rubio; STOMP cast members Ali Bradley and Jeremy Price; North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble; solo performances by Lee Howard and Jumaane Taylor; a trio performance by Star Dixon, Donnetta Jackson and Imania Fatima Detry; scholarship students from Tokyo directed by Yukiko Misumi; and more. A VIP champagne reception onstage with the artists followed the performance.

Black Ensemble Theater Founder and CEO Jackie Taylor opens the 2017 Season (The Dance Theater Season) with the world premiere musical My Brother's Keeper-The Story of The Nicholas Brothers, written and directed by Black Ensemble Theater Associate Director Rueben Echoles. My Brother's Keeper (The Story of The Nicholas Brothers) will be performed at the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center, 4450 N. Clark Street in Chicago, February 11 - March 26, 2017.  The official press opening is Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 3:00pm.

The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), which fosters social reconciliation through American tap and contemporary percussive arts in world-class, innovative performance, education and outreach programs, hosted its 26th Jubalee Gala November 4 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago, 220 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago. Attended by nearly 250 people, the event raised more than $140,000 from a combination of ticket sales, sponsorships, a paddle raise, a raffle and contributions.

This special evening, hosted by WGN's Dean Richards, took place July 30 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 220 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago. Attended by 270 people, the event raised $212,000 from a combination of ticket sales, silent and live auction proceeds, table sponsorships and individual and corporate contributions.

Dr. Bunny Briggs, American tap dancer who was inducted into the American Tap Dancing Hall of Fame in 2006, has died at the age of 92.

Darrian Ford brings the music of "The King of Soul" Chicagoan Sam Cooke alive in THE COOKE BOOK - The Music of Sam Cooke at City Winery (1200 W Randolph St.) at 8 p.m. on August 4 and at Lincoln Hall (2424 N Lincoln Ave) at 8 p.m. on August 29 and August 30. Founded in 1989, Tapestry Dance Company has been a hallmark of the performing arts in Austin and one of the most respected tap dance companies in the world for over 20 years. The company has won many prestigious awards, including "Best Dance Company" from the Austin Chronicle and "Best Ensemble" from the Austin Critics Table. In addition to producing several events and concerts every year, Tapestry Dance Company also teaches dance trough their award-winning academy.

Mainstage feature acts will include two performances of magician/entertainer Justin Willman's Tricked Out, Frank Ferrante's one-man show An Evening With Groucho and a special night with some of the greatest magicians of The Magic Castle. Road to Palooza: A Variety Show Spectacular will also be a Mainstage event for five performances featuring a number of the amazing acts playing the festival and rotating special guest performers. The Carrie Hamilton Theatre will host an eclectic variety of specialty acts over the three-week period. The CIRQUE-A-PALOOZA festival will launch today, July 19 and perform through August 11, 2013.

The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts will present Darrian Ford-- The Cooke Book - The Music of Sam Cooke, to play at the Marcus Center's Vogel Hall for four performances only tonight, March 22 at 8:00 pm, Saturday, March 23 at 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm and Sunday, March 24 at 2:00 pm.
