Last night, theatre luminaries turned out for the Evening Standard Awards at the Old Vic, where winners included Glenn Close, Ralph Fiennes, Billie Piper and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The evening was co-hosted by Sir Elton John and Evgeny Lebedev, and the Duke of Cambridge presented Sir David Attenborough with the Beyond Theatre Award for his contribution to broadcasting, while Amber Riley performed 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' from the upcoming Dreamgirls. Imagine being in New York City for the first time; the site and sounds of the 'Jazz Capital of the World.' Now imagine this first trip to a global city as a young jazz musician, about to share the stage with your peers, not to mention some legendary jazz masters in front of a packed concert venue. Everyone should be so lucky as to have an experience of this magnitude in their lifetime, but few people are. However, for many of the performers at the Jazz Gala in New York on the evening of May 3, 2014 in the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, this experience became a reality.

The Independent, The Independent on Sunday, i and London Evening Standard are proud to launch The Independent's Elephant Appeal Christmas campaign in association with Space for Giants, with support from Jude Law, Clare Balding, Boris Johnson and Bear Grylls. Space for Giants raises money to combat elephant poaching in Africa.

The Evening Standard Theatre Awards, established in 1955, are presented annually for outstanding achievements in London Theatre. Sponsored by the Evening Standard newspaper, the 2010 Awards will be presented at the Savory on November 28, 2010. The short list of the 2010 nominees will be released one week prior to the ceremony.

The Shrine (2271 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd) hosts The Nue Jazz Project on Wednesday, June 16th at 8 pm. The Nue Jazz Project is lead by drumist Chris Massey with Benjamin Drazen on saxaphone, Donald Malloy on trumpet, Evgeny Lebedev on piano, and David Ostrem on bass. They will be playing selections from Massey's new album, 'Vibrainium.'
