Shakespeare Theater Company has announced the line-up for their 2009-2010 season. Phedre, Mrs. Warren's Profession, and The Liar will come to the Shakespeare Theater stages. As You Like It, Rickard II And Henry V, and The Bacchae have been previously announced. Phedre will star Helen Mirren, and Dixie Carter will star in Mrs Warren's Profession. Ion by Euripides is currently playing at Sidney Harman Hall and will run through 4/12/09.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) announced today that the 2009 Shakespeare in the Park summer season will begin in June with a new production of William Shakespeare?s TWELFTH NIGHT directed by Daniel Sullivan and featuring Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway as Viola. TWELFTH NIGHT will run June 9-July 12 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. In August, JoAnne Akalaitis will return to direct Euripides?s THE BACCHAE, translated by Nicholas Rudall, and featuring original music by Philip Glass. THE BACCHAE will run August 11-September 6.
Shakespeare's Globe celebrates Valentine's Day, Saturday 14 February, with the launch of public booking for its 2009 theatre season Young Hearts. The season opens on Shakespeare's birthday, Thursday 23 April, and will include four Shakespeare plays and three pieces of new writing that explore the great expanse of the heart - from purity to wild passion, and from the rekindling of old love to an evergreen love of life.
The Tricycle Theatre will present The Great Game: Afghanistan from 17 April - 14 June 2009, a festival exploring Afghan culture and history through fifteen plays, a ten day film programme, Qawali Sham Sufi Group concert, ceramic and photographic exhibitions, discussion sessions, writers' talks and play readings (in conjunction with the National Theatre Studio). Previews for The Great Game: Afghanistan begin on 17 April with a press day on 24 April. In addition, the Tricycle's Education Department will produce a series of projects to support the Festival.

Damascus will run from 3 February - 7 March 2009 with press night on Monday 9 February. Designs are by Anthony Macllwaine, lighting is by Chahine Yavroyan, the composer/arranger is Jon Beales and sound is by Graham Sutherland. Hester Swane (Virginia Burke) is an Irish 'tinker,' a woman born of gypsies, and tied to the bleak landscape of the bog where she has lived her whole life. Her younger lover, Carthage Kilbride (John Catron), with whom she has a daughter, is on the verge of a marriage to another woman that will bring him land, wealth and respect. Refusing to acknowledge that Carthage could ever leave her, Hester grips more tightly and tragically to the life she believes is rightfully hers.
