Signature Theatre closes out its 2011/12 season sporting funky legwarmers and wielding neon glow sticks with the Washington premiere of the musical comedy hit Xanadu. A Midsummer Night's Dream opens Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Bruns Amphitheater after starting previews September 16. California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) ends its 35th anniversary season with a thoroughly magical production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Aaron Posner, in his company debut. One of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies, this marks the first coproduction between Cal Shakes and Two River Theater Company in New Jersey, where Posner serves as Artistic Director. The production will run through October 11, and then move to New Jersey for a limited run.

Faculty and alumni from the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts at the University of the Arts earned almost a dozen nominations for Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theater when the slate for the 15th annual event honoring Philadelphia's best stage productions was announced recently at the University's Caplan Center.
The Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre are the Greater Philadelphia region's only comprehensive theatre awards program, recognizing artists for excellence and innovation while serving to increase awareness of the richness of the local theatre community.
