This week we are officially branding ourselves as islanders because we're kissing the cod with COME FROM AWAY star Caesar Samayoa! We're pouring out gin & tonic and wine and discussing Caesar's epic journey with COME FROM AWAY from Seattle to DC, Toronto, and NYC (and an ice rink in Gander!)
With just under two weeks until the 2nd annual BROADWAY BEE fundraiser (May 8 at NYC's Le Poisson Rouge), will Broadway's next major competition see Team Beautiful 'The Carole King Musical' take home the trophy for a second year in a row?
Broadway Bound Kids, a NYC performing arts education organization, will host its second annual BROADWAY BEE fundraiser on Monday, May 8, at 7pm at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street, NYC). The Broadway Bee is an adults only spelling bee, featuring actors from current hit Broadway Shows. All proceeds go to provide performing arts opportunities for NYC youth.
The first annual Broadway Bee, featuring Paige Davis (Chicago), Laura Michelle Kelly (Finding Neverland), Tony winner Christian Borle (Something Rotten), and Jose Llana (The King and I) took place just last night at The Cutting Room (44 E. 32nd St). Proceeds benefit Broadway Bound Kids, a NYC performing arts education organization.
Ten teams, each representing a Broadway show, were encouraged to pull out all the stops to correctly spell the words. The more funds each team raised, the more they were allowed to cheat!
Broadway Bound Kids will launch an international crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo beginning Dec 3rd as part of the national day of giving, Giving Tuesday. The campaign is raising funds so that underprivileged students can be a part of the program's youth ensemble, The Broadway Bound Players, for FREE! Founded in 2004, this educational arts organization has attracted the attention of several celebrity supporters including John Stamos, Will Chase and Christian Borle - all of whom make an appearance in Broadway Bound Kids' campaign video.
