The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey celebrates art and William Shakespeare with its next Main Stage production, Shakespeare in Love. This new play based on the Oscar-winning screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard and adapted for the stage by Lee Hall makes its Metropolitan debut at STNJ on October 11. Well, I have an alternative that just might satisfy your news and theatre cravings; podcasting. Isn't that just what hipsters do between their shift at Starbucks and another trip to the thrift shop? Well, yes and no. I'm sure there is a barista in Portland who is currently recording a missive bemoaning mass media's attempt to co-opt the indie subculture, but most people who do podcasts well are incredibly informed and passionate about their specific topics.
Director Rob Ruggiero brilliantly focuses on the domestic tension between Sarah and her long-time, live-in boyfriend and fellow foreign correspondent, James (Tim Altmeyer), giving the play depth beyond its obvious question about the ethics of journalists being voyeurs on the sidelines of tragedies.

In God of Carnage, two sets of parents gather in an upscale Brooklyn home to discuss a playground altercation between their sons. At first civility is upheld, but as the conversation goes off track and the rum bottle opens, decorum flies out the window and leads to a hilarious afternoon of name-calling, tantrums and tears. Yasmina Reza's comedy is a four-way prizefight that is not to be missed.
The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the San Diego Premiere of God of Carnage, written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton. The Tony Award-winning comedy is directed by Richard Seer and will run July 27 - Sept. 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run July 27 - Aug. 1. Women's Project will end its 34th season with an off-Broadway show of epic proportions when seven playwrights, four directors, three producers and five actors collaborate on one world premiere play titled from the famous Ellen Stewart quote We Play for The Gods. We Play for The Gods stars Annie Golden, Amber Gray, Alexandra Henrikson, Irene Sofia Lucio and Erika Rolfsud. It opens tonight, June 11, at 7:30pm for a run through Saturday, June 23, at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street.
