'Too Hot To Handel' Jazz Gospel Returns to Auditorium Theatre, 1/16 & 1/17

Brett Batterson, executive director of the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University (ATRU), is pleased to announce that the beloved 'Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah' will return to Chicago's National Historic Landmark Auditorium Theatre for a special tribute to the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For two performances only, Saturday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m., ATRU will be filled with the joyous sounds and exuberance of this jazz and gospel, All-American reinvention of Handel's 'Messiah.' Single tickets are now on sale and prices start at just $30.

The New York Pops Celebrate Johnny Mercer's 100th Birthday with Ann Hampton Callaway 11/20

Legendary composer and lyricist Johnny Mercer's extensive musical accomplishments will be celebrated by the New York Pops, along with some very special guests, in a concert held on November 20 at Carnegie Hall. According to the program details on the Carnegie Hall website, scheduled to appear alongside the New York Pops are Tony Award nominee Anne Hampton Callaway, James T. Lane, N'Kenge, and the Camp Broadway Kids. Steven Reineke is the music director and conductor.

In the great tradition of multitalented stars, Broadway's newest diva Ashley Brown will make her solo record debut with her jazz vocal album, 'Speak Low'. Speak Low will be released nationwide on January 12, 2010 via Ghostlight Records and Sony distribution. Speak Low is the title track on a thoughtfully curated collection of American Songbook standards that also includes a sexy and imaginative medley of two great standards, 'Smile' and 'Make Someone Happy'. The album is filled with passionate, seductive interpretations of a wide range of songs covering jazz and Broadway standards. Speak Low is a collection of Ashley's personal favorites and will consist of new arrangements of such well known classics as 'My Funny Valentine', 'I'll Be Seeing You', 'My Only Love' and 'The Very Thought of You.'
