Bay Area Musicals (Matthew McCoy, Founder & Artistic Director, and AeJay Mitchell, Managing Director) has announced the full cast and creative team for the Company's first 2019 production, the Tony Award-nominated VIOLET. Inspired by the short story "The Ugliest Pilgrim" by Doris Betts, the World Premiere 1997 Off-Broadway production of VIOLET won the Drama Critics' Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, and the revised version that debuted on Broadway in 2014 was Tony Award-nominated. Featuring a folk/bluegrass/gospel-flavored score from Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (CAROLINE, OR CHANGE; THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE; SHREK; FUN HOME) and book and lyrics by the acclaimed Brian Crawley (A LITTLE PRINCESS), VIOLET has been astounding critics and audiences alike for over two decades.

Kevin Morby released his beloved solo debut album Harlem River five years ago, and to celebrate its anniversary, Woodsist Records will be releasing a special remix 12-inch featuring a new extended version of the title track and two remixes by Peaking Lights. The record will be out December 6 digitally, with a vinyl release to follow later in the month. 

Bay Area Musicals (Matthew McCoy, Founder & Artistic Director, and AeJay Mitchell, Managing Director) has announced the full cast and creative team for the first production of the Company' 2018-2019 season, CRAZY FOR YOU. Winner of the Tony and the Olivier Awards for Best Musical, CRAZY FOR YOU has wowed audiences on Broadway, the West End and around the world, reimagining classic Gershwin songs into a hilarious new book musical.  The show-stopping production will be an intimate version of the large-scale musical featuring the original Tony Award-winning choreography of Susan Stroman, recreated by Director/Choreographer Matthew McCoy.

This musical romp springs from the pages of Mo Willems' beloved, award-winning, best-selling children's books.  Gerald and Piggie and a trio of dancing squirrels sing and dance their way through the ups and downs of friendship.  Join these "bestus" friends as they solve problems, laugh and learn to share and support each other through good times and bad. Lucky audience members may ever learn the "Flippy Floppy Floory" dance!

HTY continues its 2018-2019 season with a world premiere play created for our youngest audiences.  Sparkle tells the story of a young boy venturing into his first social circle, making friends, standing up to a bully and discovering the glory of being unique.  The poignant and humorous story models powerful lessons about believing in yourself and knowing that no one has the right to take your Sparkle away.  Filed with music, puppets and a transforming tent the short production is a perfect introduction to those new to theatre and a fun piece of whimsy for those more theatrically savvy.  

ARJUN, the three-piece instrumental band from New York, has been trailblazing their own hybrid of rock and improvisational jazz since 2003. Featuring Eddie Arjun Peters on guitar, Andre Lyles on bass guitar and Michael Vetter on drums; ARJUN fuses the power of rock with improvisational alternative jazz, resulting in a delicate balance of intricately crafted melodies backed by powerhouse musicianship.
