Elephant & Piggie's WE ARE IN A PLAY! Offers a Swimmy, Fancy, Good Time At HTY ImageThis musical romp springs from the pages of Mo Willems' beloved, award-winning, best-selling children's books. Gerald and Piggie and a trio of dancing squirrels sing and dance their way through the ups and downs of friendship. Join these "bestus" friends as they solve problems, laugh and learn to share and support each other through good times and bad. Lucky audience members may ever learn the "Flippy Floppy Floory" dance!

HTY Artistic Director, Eric Johnson, describes author Mo Willems as a modern treasure. "He is this generation's Dr. Seuss or P. D. Eastman, so the fact that he adapted his own books, writing the script and lyrics for this play means that audiences are going to be treated to the same clever, sophisticated, laugh-out-loud storytelling we have loved reading at bedtime and in the classroom. These stories are modern classics and we are delighted to bring such beloved characters to our stage this Holiday season."

Elephant & Piggie's "WE ARE IN A PLAY!" is based on the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems, published by Hyperion Books for Children, Script and Lyrics by Mo Willems, Music by Deborah Wicks La Puma. Featuring Nathaniel Niemi as "Gerald" and Maki'ilei Ishihara as "Piggie". With Chirstina Uyeno, Claire Fallon, and Susan Hawes as the "Squirelles" and Sean-Jossph Choo as the "Musician". Director Eric Johnson; Choreographer Ligaya Stice; Scenic, Costume, Props Design Joseph Dodd; Costume Construction Iris Kim; Lighting Design, Stage Manager Brian Gilhooly; Music Director Sean-Joseph Choo; Sound Designer Matthew Mazzella. This play was first commissioned by and first produced at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
