Lincoln Center Education Launches Summer Forum Learning Labs for Artists & Educators, 7/7-18

Russell Granet, Executive Director of Lincoln Center Education (LCE), announced details today ofSummer Forum 2014, a re-envisioned professional development experience which expands on Lincoln Center's unparalleled dedication to professional growth for local, national, and international educators and artists. LCE's Summer Forum, which takes place July 7 through 18 and succeeds the previous Summer Session series, will feature in-depth and hands-on educational workshops based on LCE's core values of engagement, equity, integrity and creativity, and its approach to aesthetic education and focus on "thinking like an artist." Summer Forum is open to educators and artists of all kinds, and LCE-trained teaching artists will lead labs that explore the process of imaginative learning and discovery through works of performance and fine art, helping the participants determine how to apply what they have learned in their own classrooms, whether it be towards science, English, history or the arts. Lab topics throughout Summer Forum will include sessions on aesthetic education practices, teaching artistry to arts and Common Core, creating art in the community, and LCE's pedagogy for engaging students in problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Brooklyn Arts Exchange Announces 2013 BAX Arts & Artists in Progress Award Nominees

The BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange arts and artists in progress awards, now in their twelfth year, have been designed to honor individuals in the arts who have revealed and transformed our creative world. By instigating and enduring change they have deepened the definition of their field and paved the way for others. The awards have been given to some of the most talented, generous, creative and inventive individuals in NYC dance, theater or performance. Nominations for the 2013 awards were sought from over 100 past awardees, presenters and members of the field. Final selections will be announced no later than November 1, 2012.

NYC AIE Roundtable Face to Face Conference Features National and International Speakers

Face to Face 2012, the annual conference of the New York City Arts in Education Roundtable, will feature presentations on best arts education practices in communities outside New York, both nationally and internationally. In her Keynote Address, Gigi Antoni, President and CEO of Big Thought in Dallas, Texas will report on the integrated citywide arts instruction system her organization has created. She will discuss the challenges and opportunities inherent in developing a comprehensive instructional delivery system that coordinates the work of school-based instructors with programs and services offered by cultural partners.

LA Phil Hosts Instrument Drive to Support YOLA 5/6-8

Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) is the Los Angeles Philharmonic's initiative, supported by a network of stakeholders, to provide access to exceptional instrumental and orchestral education in order to promote youth development.

LA Phil Presents Three-Day Symposium, Composing Change: YOLA & El Sistema Movement, 5/6-5/8

The Los Angeles Philharmonic, in partnership with El Sistema USA and the League of American Orchestras, presents a three-day symposium, Composing Change: YOLA and the El Sistema Movement. The symposium, which takes place May 6-8, 2010 at EXPO Center and Walt Disney Concert Hall, will focus on a global perspective on El Sistema-influenced programs taking root beyond the borders of Venezuela, utilizing the YOLA Expo Center Youth Orchestra Program and one of the ultimate icons of El Sistema, Gustavo Dudamel, as the case study. The three-day event features a visit to the Expo Center, roundtable discussions, an invitational rehearsal with the YOLA Expo Center Youth Orchestra at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and a conversation between Gustavo Dudamel and LA Phil President & CEO Deborah Borda.

Epic Theatre Ensemble to Honor John Guare & Stanley Tucci at 8th Annual Gala March 9th
