HFFNY 2017 Announces Addition of Films to its Program

Havana Film Festival NY (HFFNY) announces two new and hot releases coming from Chile and Uruguay to join the competition for the Havana Star Prize: Vida de Familia (Family Life), a 2017 Chilean drama directed by Alicia Scherson and Cristian Jimenez, which premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and El Candidato (The Candidate) by renown Uruguayan actor Daniel Hendler, who recently won Best Director at the Miami International Film Festival.

True Story Comes to Life in TOMAS AND THE LIBRARY LADY at Dallas Children's Theater

Dallas Children's Theater brings to life the power of education through storytelling in TOMÁS AND THE LIBRARY LADY. Discover an inspiring, true story based on the life of Tomas Rivera, a young boy from Texas born into a family of migrant farm workers who ultimately became the first Mexican American to hold a position of chancellor in the University of California system. TOMÁS AND THE LIBRARY LADY opens March 24, 2017 at Dallas Children's Theater (DCT) / Rosewood Center for Family Arts.

Piano phenomenon Elio Villafranca will bring the next generation of his popular "Letters to Mother Africa" concerts, the second in his series on the African continent's powerful influence on jazz and folk Cuban music, to Aaron Davis Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31.

Harper Lee's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Coming to Juneau and Anchorage

See Harper Lee's beloved tale of a young lawyer and his family testing their limits and the unwritten laws of their time. To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Christopher Sergel, based on the novel by Harper Lee, runs March 14 - April 16in Juneau, and April 27 - May 7 in Anchorage.

Pennsylvania Ballet Presents ROMANCE and RE/ACTION

Pennsylvania Ballet and Artistic Director Angel Corella will finish the 2016/2017 season with two mixed bill programs: Romance in April, featuring the World Premiere of Nicolo Fonte's Ghost Stories; and the final program, Re/Action, in May which includes a World Premiere by Choreographer in Residence, Matthew Neenan. Romance, supported by ALGER, will run April 6-9 at The Merriam Theater, and Re/Action will run May 11-14 at The Academy of Music.

Jens Bang-Rasmussen Makes New York Recital Debut 4/11

Renowned Danish guitarist Jens Bang-Rasmussen will make his New York recital debut on Tuesday evening, April 11 at Weill Recital Hall. This wide-ranging program traces a Nordic historical thread, from Renaissance composer John Dowland-who, though English by birth, served at the court Christian IV of Denmark-to the world premiere of Suite for Guitar by Danish composer Kim Helweg, written specially for this event.

18th Annual Havana Film Festival New York Announces Its 2017 Program

The 18th Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY) showcases the diversity of Latino voices and stories in a program that includes over 35 films. This year, HFFNY pays homage to one of Cuba's foremost forces in animation and storytelling, Juan Padron, and the late Argentine director Eliseo Subiela.
