Frist Fridays Concert Series Kicks Off with Rodney Crowell Tonight, 5/25

Frist Fridays, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts' popular summer concert series, opens the 2012 four-concert season tonight, May 25 with singer-songwriter and Grammy winner, Rodney Crowell performing in the Turner Courtyard.

It's officially summer come June and this summer season promises to be an active one at the Frist Center. Next month kicks off with the opening of Metamorphoses: Drawings by Erin Anfinson, Kristi Hargrove, Mark Hosford, and Chris Scarborough in the Conte Community Arts Gallery, and is shortly followed by the opening of Constable: Oil Sketches from the Victoria and Albert Museum on June 22. The Frist has collaborated with Watkins College on an quilting workshop with edgy quilter Ben Venom and the second installment of Frist Fridays on June 29th features Sam Bush with special guest Lera Lynn.

The Wallflowers Announce New Album

The Wallflowers have announced they are back in the studio and putting the finishing touches on a new studio album that will be released by Columbia Records this fall. Currently recording in Nashville at Dan Auerbach's (The Black Keys) Easy Eye Sound studio, the new album finds frontman Jakob Dylan joining original band members Greg Richling (bass) and Rami Jaffee (keyboards), with Wallflowers' longtime guitarist Stuart Mathis and drummer Jack Irons (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam) rounding out the lineup. The album is being produced by Jay Joyce (Emmylou Harris, Cage the Elephant) and mixed by Rich Costey (Bruce Springsteen, The Shins).

St. Ann's Warehouse Presents THE WRECKING BALL Gala Concert Tonight, 5/7

St. Ann's has presented nearly all of the artists performing in The Wrecking Ball concert, whether at 38 Water Street or, previously, in the landmark Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights. Sam Amidon and Nico Muhly both performed in the world premiere of Tell the Way (2011), which Muhly composed for the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

The Honey Brothers new LP, Time Flies Like A Peach, is available now on Velour Music Group/ RED. The band's first full-length release since 2006's Songs For Your Sister, this latest effort was produced by Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith) and recorded in Kingston, NY. The Honey Brothers kick off the release with a headlining date at NYC's Bowery Ballroom on Thursday, April 19.

On April 2, 2012, at New York's Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, musical artists and stars will come together to show their support for a special evening billed as "A Celebration of Paul Newman's Dream," to benefit Paul Newman's Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. The event will feature performances by world-renowned performing artists, the campers themselves and a special announcement about the Association's global network of camps. Performances will include GRAMMY-winning and GRAMMY-nominated musicians: Josh Groban, Paul Simon and Trisha Yearwood, as well as additional surprise musical performances throughout the evening and appearances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Jimmy Fallon, with more to be announced. Ticket sales from the evening - which is supported by Newman's Own Foundation and hosted by Joanne Woodward, produced by Kevin Duncan and directed by Josh Rhodes - will benefit Paul Newman's family of camps and programs supporting children facing serious illnesses from around the world.
