In January, the national tour of Disney's Beauty and the Beast returns to our area after a successful run at Wolf Trap earlier this year. The show will play at the Historic Warner Theatre in Penn Quarter from January 6 - 11.

The current touring production of Beauty and the Beast shares the songs, dialogue, title, and even the creative team of the original Broadway production, but it completely lacks any sort of purpose, save the desire to put cash in the pockets of its producers. There's no magic or life in this pitiful production at all.

In celebration of Disney's Beauty and the Beast's 20th anniversary on the stage, Disney Theatrical Productions, NETworks and Broadway Entertainment Group will present the first-ever international tour for the title. The English-language tour will open at Istanbul's Zorlu Center in October 2014 and will tour to diverse international markets including Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia marking the first time Disney's timeless musical will have been seen in these territories. Featuring Emily Jewell (a local favorite) as the aspiring actress Cathy Hiatt, and Elisha Schaefer as the vibrant and eccentric novelist Jamie Wellerstein, this production is sure to deliver both tears of joy and strife, as the story explores the discovery and complications of 'true' love through the lens of the inevitable.
