The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, began rehearsals today (pictured, left) for the world premiere musical Waitress. Based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly the new musical has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus, and choreography by Chase Brock.

Wax Wings Productions announces EYES SHUT. DOOR OPEN, a modern day Cain and Abel tale by Cassie M. Seinuk. Set in New York City, the play focuses on the curiosities of human relationships and explores the various dynamics within the vibrant and ever-evolving SoHo art scene. EYES SHUT. DOOR OPEN fits perfectly within the repertoire of Wax Wings Productions as it not only excites and provokes, but calls on the audience to evaluate Human Nature from a deeper, more meaningful perspective. The play will be on stage at The Inner Sanctum Gallery, an artist and creative social center in Roxbury, and will run for two weeks only: August 6-8 and August 13-15, 2015.

Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, is back to direct the first show of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. The A.R.T. won seven Elliot Norton Awards given by the Boston Theatre Critics Association honoring Boston's best theatre productions. The annual awards are named for Boston's dean of American drama critics, Elliot Norton, who died in 2003 at the age of 100, and were held last night, May 11 at the Citi Shubert Theatre.

Gaiety ruled at the 33rd Annual Elliot Norton Awards ceremony as Ryan Landry, impresario of the Gold Dust Orphans, received the Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence, and comedian-actress-jazz musician Lea DeLaria was the Guest of Honor. Bragging rights went to American Repertory Theater with seven wins in the large theater categories, while Lyric Stage Company led all midsize theaters with four wins.
