Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, has announced the 26-member Broadway cast of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. Newcomers to the cast include Gavin Creel, Caissie Levy and Sasha Allen, who join the rest of the tribe, who are reprising their roles from Central Park last summer. Currently in rehearsal at the Union Square Theatre, HAIR begins preview performances on Friday, March 6 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC) with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 31, 2009.In order to accommodate the logistics of the new producing partnership, preview performances will now begin on Friday, March 6, with Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 31, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (320 West 45th Street, New York City).

The New York Times is reporting the positive news that the leaders of New York's Public Theater announced today, Thursday January 29th, that they have signed an agreement with the Broadway producer Elizabeth I. McCann that avoids legal action, threatened by Ms. McCann, over the upcoming transfer of the musical 'Hair,' which is scheduled to begin rehearsals on Friday.
In a feature story in the New York Times about the effect of the recession and Wall Street slide on both ends of the theatre business - ticket sales, and those raising producer dollars, they note that Elizabeth I. McCann, lead producer for HAIR has only raised $3 million of the $6.5 million needed to capitalize the production which is due to start rehearsals next month on Broadway. 'I'll go on record and say I will capitalize 'Hair' in the end. But it's very tough.' said McCann to the paper, however.
