Elizabeth Barkan’s Bike Shop The Musical, with book and lyrics by Barkan and Caroline Murphy, will be presented Off-Broadway at Theater for the New City.

On March 16 at 3:00 PM, Theater for the New City (TNC), 155 First Avenue (at East Tenth Street), will celebrate the life of Joseph Vernon Banks, the long-time composer of its Street Theater productions, who died of cancer at age 62 on November 11, 2023.

The libretto is by Elizabeth Barkan with lyrics by Caroline Murphy and music by Youn-Young Park. Gerry Deiffenbach is Musical Director.

Theater for the New City presents BIKE SHOP, A New Musical, created by Elizabeth Barkan and directed by Gretchen Cryer, running September 11th through September 27th, 2015.

BIKE SHOP is the story of a Brooklyn bicycle store circa 1993 and its owner, Bobby, an exuberant bike mechanic who runs a shop that was first opened by her grandmother in 1936. Two years after a tragic bike accident, Bobby tries to get back on her bike and get her own life in gear.

This month, we are pleased to present two new shows opening here at TNC. First, 'The story of Yu-Huan' a Drama in two acts, written and directed by Joanna Chan. 'L'Amfiparnaso' By Western Wind Ensemble. and Theater for the new city would like to welcome back'Bike Shop' written by Elizabeth Barken and Directed by Gretchen Cryer.
