THE OFFENDING GESTURE -- a play by Mac Wellman -- will be given its world premiere by The Tank (a non-profit arts presenter and producer) this winter with previews beginning January 6th prior to opening on January 9 at The Connelly Theater (220 East 4th Street).
Clinton Hill cultural hub and OBIE award-winner JACK launches its winter/spring 2016 season with an a cappella opera set in Zimbabwe by composer Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa, a weekend of curated works by Modesto "Flako" Jimenez, the premiere of the dirty and bracing play Tom & Eliza, by Celine Song, the English-language premiere of Argentinian playwright Rafael Spregelburd's SPAM, The Geneva Project by Jennifer Harrison Newman, Antonio Ramos' Thirsty Mind, love and starvation sitting in a lonely tree and an exploration in minimalist/pop art performance by the No Face Performance Group. JACK also engineers the return of Walter Dundervill's ARENA (which had two sold-out runs at JACK in 2014 and 2015).

On February 12, 1915, the Abrons Arts Center's Henry Street Settlement Playhouse opened its doors on the Lower East Side. Since that day, it has remained a vital cultural resource, providing audiences with artistically bold work while offering artists opportunities to dynamically grow. Award-winning writer and director Tina Satter, along with her company Half Straddle, re-imagine and re-invigorate cult pop and literary tropes in an effort to trouble and question language and identity. As company member Jess Barbagallo has written, 'Characters in Tina's plays are often on the precipice of a subversive self-discovery, and articulate a sad but liberating and intrinsically queer value: that the self is perhaps never to be discovered, but always to be made.' In Satter's meticulous landscapes, both actors and characters playfully embrace fluidity, feminine agency and subversion. Critics have marveled at Satter's theatricality. Ben Brantley in The New York Times called her work, 'enchanting,' and, 'so very refreshing' while Helen Shaw in Time Out New York declared, 'Satter's Half Straddle company is launching a particularly coordinated goal-line drive to a new feminist form.'

Lincoln Center Theater has announced two new upcoming productions: SHOWS FOR DAYS, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane, to be directed by Jerry Zaks; and the LCT3 production of PRELUDES, a new musical by Dave Malloy, to be directed by Rachel Chavkin. SHOWS FOR DAYS, marks the return of both playwright Douglas Carter Beane (The Nance) and director Jerry Zaks (The House of Blue Leaves, Anything Goes, Six Degrees of Separation) to Lincoln Center Theater, will begin previews Thursday, June 4 and open on Monday, June 29 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. PRELUDES, the first musical to be produced by LCT3 in the Claire Tow Theater, will run from Saturday, May 23 through Sunday, July 19. Opening night is Monday, June 15.
