The Herb Alpert Foundation and California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) have awarded the 18th annual Alpert Award in the Arts to five exceptional mid-career artists. The award, a prize of $75,000, recognizes past performance and future promise to artists working in Dance, Film/Video, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts.

My Occasion of Sin began preview performances on Friday, March 16, 2012 and will celebrate its opening night on Wednesday, March 21 at Urban Stages (259 West 30 Street), running through Sunday, April 15. With performances beginning for the premiere of Monica Bauer's My Occasion of Sin, directed by Frances Hill on March, Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Founding Artistic Director; Peter Napolitano, Producing Director) is proud to add an additional two performances to the run, Saturday, March 24th at 3PM and Tuesday, April 10th at 8PM.
On Friday March 2, 2012, New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Deputy Artistic Director; Jaynie Saunders Tiller, Managing Director), the OBIE-winning Off Off Broadway theatre company, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a benefit Birthday Bash at 3LD Art & Technology Center, 80 Greenwich Street, Lower Manhattan. The evening will include cocktails, catered hors d'oeuvres, special performances which include moments from New Georges' first 20 years, and a dance party.
As part of Pulitzer Prize nominee Eisa Davis's two-year position as artist-in-residence at Symphony Space, she will present an evening of songs from her most recent recording, Something Else, as well as other original works, and offers a sneak preview from her new music-theater work, Flowers are Sleeping, commissioned by Symphony Space that will receive its world premiere performance in April of 2013 as part of Symphony Space's Harlem Renaissance festival.
