The Sarasota Film Society (SFS) has announced the schedule of films for its 23rd Annual Cine-World Film Festival. SFS is continuing its tradition of exhibiting the best in world cinema with a wide range of quality films from all over the globe, including movies from the USA, Israel, Germany, Australia, South Korea, France, the United Kingdom, Chile, Brazil, and more.

Edward Burns Actor/Director and Long Island native was honored with the 2012 Artist of Distinction Award for achievement in film by the Gold Coast International Film Festival last night.

With The Fitzgerald Family Christmas, Burns returns to the working-class, Irish-American roots of The Brothers McMullen. Reuniting with McMullen co-stars Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), and Mike McGlone, along with Noah Emmerich (Little Children, Beautiful Girls) and Kerry Bishe (Newlyweds, Red State), Burns seamlessly weaves an ensemble story of adult siblings dealing with the desire of their estranged father (Ed Lauter, The Artist, The Longest Yard) to return home for Christmas for the first time since he walked out on his family 20 years ago. Family rifts emerge, and like with any family, Christmas brings a mixed bag of complicated emotions and dynamics. Alliances form, old wounds are reopened or glossed over, and the possibility for a new hope and forgiveness emerges.

ALEX CROSS will be released in theaters on October 19th from Summit Entertainment. The drama thriller is directed by Rob Cohen and stars Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, Edward Burns, Jean Reno, Rachel Nichols, Giancarlo Esposito, John C. The Second Annual Gold Coast International Film Festival presented by the Great Neck Arts Center, with the Town of North Hempstead as Founding Sponsor, will present seven days and nights of bold, dynamic films, programs, panels, tributes, conversations, awards and festivities on Long Island's North Shore. GCIFF gets underway Monday, October 22 with two pre-festival events followed by its Opening Night Gala on Wednesday, and then runs at the Clearview Cinemas in the communities of Manhasset, Roslyn, Great Neck and Port Washington through Sunday, October 28, 2012.

Tribeca Film has acquired North American rights to award-winning thriller No Rest for the Wicked (No habra paz para los malvados), which is currently screening as part of Fantastic Fest in Austin. The film was the big winner at the most recent Goya Awards. Tribeca Film plans a December release for the film.

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced today that the 2010 Spirit Awards will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010, and will air live and uncut at 8:00 p.m. PST/11:00 p.m. EST on IFC (Independent Film Channel). The nominations press conference will take place on Tuesday, December 1.
