Myriam Phiro, a NYC-based french songstress wrote a cabaret show celebrating Edith Piaf's centennial. After performing it at 54 Below, the Metropolitan Room, the Iridium & Drom, she is inviting you to a very special performance of it at the Metropolitan Room on March 3rd (9.30pm). In the context of a MAC Awards nomination for her latest album 'Voyages' in the 'Best 2015 recording' category, she put together a 'for your consideration' rendition of her 'Piaf at 100' show with an added snippet of her her latest Jazz album. A not-to-be-missed event!

song cycle composed and sung by Lemper, set to words by Coelho from his 2012 novel Manuscript Found in Accra, the thematic content of which may be encapsulated in the lines, “After lying undiscovered for over 700 years, a manuscript holding the answers to questions about life and humanity is unearthed. / Simple questions about our lives torn between happiness and sorrow and defined by hope, intelligence and desire to love as much as the capacity to hate and destroy.” Coelho himself is featured on two tracks—see below for track list. As soon as Dael Orlandersmith walks into the room, you feel the force of her presence. This is despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that she's not even facing the audience, but rather examining a series of old photographs pinned to the wall. She makes her way around the room, eventually climbing onto the stage, looking out into the audience, and welcoming you to the theatre. And at that point, you're pretty much done for. Ms. Orlandersmith is a performer of the highest order, and you'd be best to take a deep breath now, because you might forget to for the next 80 minutes.
