Astrograss to Play Jewish Museum, 10/12

The kids bluegrass band Astrograss will perform a concert for families on Sunday, October 12 at 11:30 am at The Jewish Museum. Presenting a rich blend of bluegrass, old-time, and folk music, Astrograss will lead the audience in sing-alongs to traditional classics and high-energy fiddle hoedowns. The band will also perform tunes from their 2012 album, Colored Pencil Factory, as well as songs celebrating the natural world in honor of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

The Jewish Museum is presenting Pattern Palooza Family Day, a fun-filled multi-generational event celebrating the exhibition threeASFOUR: MER KA BA on Sunday, January 26 from 12 noon to 4pm. Activities include two performances by world music artist Oran Etkin, a huge drop-in art workshop, and family tours. This event is free with Museum admission.

The Macaroons will perform two concerts for families at The Jewish Museum on Wednesday, December 25 at 11:30am and 2:00pm. Families can enjoy a guitar-based sound that recalls everything from the Kinks to Queen to the Shins. The Macaroons will perform such songs as Hurry Up, Light the Candle, Mezuzah, Billy the Bagel, and more.

Gustafer Yellowgold Family Concert Set for Jewish Museum 12/15

The Jewish Museum will present Gustafer Yellowgold, a concert for families featuring award-winning illustrator/songwriter Morgan Taylor, on Sunday, December 15 at 2 pm. Taylor developed the Gustafer Yellowgold experience as equal parts pop rock concert and minimally animated movie. A storyteller with a comedic bent, Taylor has dreamed up a world of catchy and original story-songs about Gustafer (a friendly guy from the sun who landed in the Minnesota woods), performed alongside a large screen displaying vividly colored animations with karaoke-style subtitles. Gustafer resides in a cottage with his menagerie of friends, including his pet eel; Slim, a tuxedo-wearing pterodactyl best friend; and a dragon named Asparagus who inhabits the fireplace and loves corn on the cob.

Ben Rudnick & Friends will perform a Hanukkah concert for families at The Jewish Museum on Sunday, December 1 at 2:00pm, blending musical styles from country to bluegrass, to rock and second-line New Orleans jazz. Families can hear original songs from Rudnick's award-winning albums as well as twists on such Hanukkah classics as 'I Have a Little Dreidel' and 'Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah.' Ben Rudnick (guitar and vocals) will be joined by John Zevos (mandolin and vocals), Chris Zevos (bass guitar and vocals), David Dillon (drums), and special guest Kenny Kosek (fiddle).

The kids' indie rock band, Tim and the Space Cadets performs a concert for families at The Jewish Museum on Sunday, November 17 at 2:00pm. Songwriters Tim Kubart and Matt Puckett weave their childhood memories into textured pop tunes, rock songs, and lullabies. In celebration of the exhibition, Art Spiegelman's Co-Mix: A Retrospective, the Space Cadets will perform the chart-topping single 'Superhero' along with other tunes exploring adventure and inspiring the imagination.

The Jewish Museum is presenting Chagall Family Day, a fun-filled multi-generational event celebrating the exhibition Chagall: Love, War, and Exile on Sunday, October 6 from 12 noon to 4 pm. Activities include two performances by imaginative kids' rock band The Pop Ups, a huge drop-in art workshop, original puppets and costumes with the Puppeteers' Cooperative, painting sessions, and family tours. This event is free with Museum admission.

Elizabeth Mitchell and You Are My Flower is performing a folk rock concert for families on Sunday, April 21 at 2:00 pm at The Jewish Museum. Mitchell, a singer and guitarist known for reinterpreting classic folk songs for children and their parents, will be joined by her husband, singer/guitarist Daniel Littleton, and their eleven year old daughter Storey. Concert attendees can enjoy cherished folk classics and soulful originals from the albums Catch the Moon and Blue Clouds.

The Jewish Museum is offering Crafting Stories: A Passover Art Workshop on Sunday, March 24 at 1 pm. Kids will be able to create their own Hagaddahs for Passover with author Francine Hermelin Levite. Using pages from Levite's book, My Haggadah: Made It Myself, along with a mix of art materials such as fabric, yarn and buttons, families can explore themes of the holiday through art-making. This program is presented in partnership with Reboot. A Haggadah is the text read at the Passover seder.

The Milkshake Trio Performs Family Concert at The Jewish Museum, 3/3

The Milkshake Trio, the groundbreaking band for kids and grownups, celebrating the release of their fifth CD, Got a Minute?, is performing a family concert on Sunday, March 3 at 2:00 pm at The Jewish Museum. In this show for kids ages 2 to 7, the band will play old favorites like 'Baseball' (where the trio plays a mini-ball game with the audience), 'Fingers & Toes' (in which band member Michael 'Shepp' Sheppard tries out his French), and 'Bottle of Sunshine' (featuring the Milkshake Bottle of Sunshine), along with an array of new songs from Got a Minute? Known for an energetic pop-rock style, the Milkshake Trio's musical influences range from Julie Andrews and The Beatles to The White Stripes and Bo Diddley. The trio also includes the founders of Milkshake, Lisa Mathews and Mikel Gehl.

Dirty Sock Funtime Band Performs Family Concert at The Jewish Museum, 2/24

The Dirty Sock Funtime Band performs a concert for families at The Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 24 at 2:00 pm. Nominated Best Kid's Band by Time Out New York Kids, this high energy group brings a carnival atmosphere to its performance, filled with call backs, sing-alongs, dance-alongs and jam-alongs. To celebrate the holiday of Purim, kids are invited to come in costume and dance to such klezmer rock songs as ClownaHagila. Members of the band include lead singer Michael Messer, Adam Jacobs aka Mr. Clown; guitarists Stephen Jacobs and Bill 'Billy Z.' Phillips; bass guitarist Jasper Leak; drummer Sean Dixon; clarinetist/saxophonist Ken Thomson; and dancer Annie Elmer. This concert is for children age 3 and up.

Movement Makers Dance Workshop and Gallery Tour for Children Set for the Jewish Museum, 2/17

The Jewish Museum is offering Movement Makers, a dance workshop and gallery tour on Sunday, February 17 at 10:30 am. Participants can explore creativity through movement with dancer Ashton McCullough, learning expressive techniques for putting the body in motion. This specially created program for children ages 8 to 12 is inspired by the Museum's current exhibition, Sharon Lockhart | Noa Eshkol.
