Nevermore 2009, one-man reenactments, a mock-funeral, exhibits and film festivals; Baltimore has its share of Edgar Allen Poe celebrations in this, the 200th anniversary of his birth. Single Carrot Theatre, debuting a workshop theatre space in a laboratory setting for the first time, will present a different kind of tribute altogether in the Poe Project, an interactive, process-based work derived from the writings of Poe himself.
Actor Jay Doolittle and three accomplices will bring to life favorites such as 'The Cask of Amantillado,' 'The Masque of the Red Death,' 'The Tell-Tale Heart' and 'The Raven,' allowing audiences to 'descend iinto the macabre madness of murderers, merry-makers and haunted souls described in grosteque detail by a mater of language.'

Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, under the leadership of Executive Director Stacie Burgua, announces the cast of Franklin & Figaro, by Kristina Sutherland. The production, directed by the playwright, features Bob Atkinson, Tom Churchill, Ed Cornachio, Patricia Duff, Deana Duncan, David Gignac, Dave Mayer, L. Bennett Nolen, and Katie Woodzick.
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEAL) has awarded Atlanta's Georgia Shakespeare with a $25,000 grant to participate in Shakespeare for a New Generation for 2009 - 2010. The grant will allow Georgia Shakespeare to expand its professional tour production of Abet to 15 schools in underserved areas of Georgia, western North Carolina, and southeastern Alabama.
