Playmill Theatre Opens House of the Seven Gables

The House of the Seven Gables is a walk through haunted house experience like no other. You will be escorted by one of the house's many butlers through each haunting. Patrons will be placed directly in the climax of the greatest horror stories of all time. You will live these moments standing just inches away from Edgar Allen Poe's 'Tell Tale Heart', Frankenstein's Monster, Nosfuratu, Mrs. Lovett's Meat Pie Shop, and witness a Salem witch hanging.

Guillotine Theatre to Bring TALES OF MYSTERY AND THE IMAGINATION to Ivy Hill Cemetery, 10/17-19

For the past 15 years, Guillotine Theatre (formerly The Georgetown Theatre Company) has presented readings from the works of Edgar Allen Poe at Grace Church, in Georgetown. Last year, the troupe also performed at the Athenaeum, an historic building in Old Town Alexandria. This year, they have been invited to perform in an empty burial vault in historic Ivy Hill Cemetery, in the Rosemont district of Alexandria. The two Alexandria events are called Tales of Mystery and the Imagination, NOT Halloween in Georgetown.

Houston Symphony Performs Rachmaninoff's THE BELLS, 9/26

On September 26, 28 and 29, the Houston Symphony will perform Rachmaninoff's exciting choral piece The Bells for the second time in the organization's 100-year history. First performed with the Houston Symphony in February 1944, the upcoming concerts offer a rare opportunity for Houston audiences to experience the piece performed live on the Jones Hall stage. Inspired by a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, The Bells features the orchestra and chorus as they create tonal colors suggesting the sounds of bells, from the merriment of silver bells to the heart-pounding excitement of alarm bells. Conducted by Matthew Halls, this performance will feature the Houston Symphony Chorus led by Director Charles Hausmann. Guest vocalists Jessica Rivera, soprano; Nathaniel Peake, tenor; and David Pittsinger, bass-baritone will perform solo roles.

Berkeley Rep to Open 46th Season with VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, Begin. 9/20

Berkeley Repertory Theatre kicks off its 46th season this September with Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play. The hilarious Broadway blockbuster from three-time Obie Award-winner Christopher Durang begins previews in the Roda Theatre on September 20, opens September 25, and runs through October 20. Durang, the renowned author of rollicking comedies such as Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You and The Marriage of Bette & Boo, turns Chekhov on his head with this witty and incisive farce. In bucolic Bucks County, Vanya and Sonia fritter their lives away in their family's farmhouse amid regret, angst, and the alarming prophecies of an addled housecleaner. Enter their sister Masha, a self-absorbed movie star with her prized boy toy Spike, and the stage is set for an absurd weekend of hilarity and global warming. Acclaimed director Richard E.T. White returns to Berkeley Rep to stage the laugh-inducing Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a loving homage to Chekhov's themes of heartbreak and hope.

THE GAME'S AFOOT Set for Peninsula Players, 8/14-9/1

'The Game's Afoot,' a hilarious new whodunit from the master of comedy Ken Ludwig, begins performances August 14, 2013 at Peninsula Players Theatre, America's oldest professional resident summer theater and Door County, Wisconsin's theatrical icon. 'The Game's Afoot,' has a three- week run with performances Tuesday through Sunday through Sept. 1, 2013.

Renée Fleming and More to Join Houston Symphony, Sept 2013

The Houston Symphony's Centennial Season Classical and POPS series of concerts will kick-off in September with a sensational line up of classical repertoire, world-class soloists and acrobatic amazement. Following a spectacular weekend of POPS performances with the aerial artists, acrobats, jugglers and strongmen of Cirque de la Symphonie, the Symphony's Centennial Classical season Opening Night concert will feature the talents of three-time GRAMMY award winner and vocal superstar, Renee Fleming.

Readings of EDGAR ALLEN POE'S FLAWLESS MURDER and MARY MARIE Set for Rubicon, 6/8-15

Members of the public are invited to attend free readings of two new plays-in-development at Rubicon Theatre Company on June 8, 9 and 15 as part of Rubicon's continuing Plays-in-Progress series. A new psychological thriller, Edgar Allen Poe's Flawless Murder by Gary W. Marion will be read Saturday, June 8 at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 15 at 2:00 p.m., co-produced with Michael Jackowitz and Witz-End Productions. Mary Marie, a new family musical with book by Chana Wise and music by composer Carl Johnson will take place on Sunday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. (in association with the Academy of New Musical Theatre in North Hollywood).

Bohemian Theatre Ensemble and The Hypocrites Top List of Jeff Nominations

The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 120 nominations in 25 categories of Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2012, and March 31, 2013. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 146 productions offered by 65 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 54 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty-three theatre companies received nominations.
