BPF Continues Season XXXII with New Play Reading Marathon Today

The Baltimore Playwrights Festival continues its Thirty-Second Season with a play-reading marathon today, January 26, 2013 at The Vagabond Players, 806 S. Broadway, Baltimore, Md. Starting at 11:00 a.m., plays to be read are Someone Close to You by Melissa Borgerding, followed at 1:00 p.m. by Playful Poe by The Playwrights Group of Baltimore, and at 3:00 p.m. by Spring Chickens by Dennis Martin. After each reading there will be a discussion of the script with the playwright, director and actors. The event is free, and the general public is encouraged to attend.

Odyssey Theatre's THEATRE IN THE DARK Extends Through 2/9 as One Combined Show: BEYOND DARK

The Odyssey Theatre continues its unique two evening festival of short plays performed completely in the dark ("DARK" and "MORE DARK"), combining the best of both evenings into a single performance ("BEYOND DARK - the 'Best of' Theatre in the Dark") for an additional 6 weeks, today, January 5 through February 9. With the audience and actors bathed in complete darkness, the imagination and senses are left to soar.

Duke City Rep and Blackout Theatre Collaborate for POE FEST, Feb-April 2013

Blackout Theatre Company and Duke City Repertory Theatre Announce Poe Fest. Join Blackout and Duke City Rep for a festival of events celebrating of the life and works of the renowned writer Edgar Allan Poe, the inspiration for both DCRT's Poe and Blackout's The Poe Project: Merely This and Nothing More. Poe-centric activities begin the last week of January and continue through April.

WGA West to Honor Daniel Petrie Jr. with 'Guild Service' Award

The Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) has named two-time WGAW President Daniel Petrie, Jr. as its 2013 Morgan Cox Award honoree in recognition of his longtime service to the Guild. The award will be presented at the WGAW's 2013 Writers Guild Awards West Coast ceremony on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE.

Odyssey Theatre's THEATRE IN THE DARK, Extends Through 2/9 As One Combined Show: BEYOND DARK

The Odyssey Theatre continues its unique two evening festival of short plays performed completely in the dark ("DARK" and "MORE DARK") through December 16 as scheduled, combining the best of both evenings into a single performance ("BEYOND DARK - the 'Best of' Theatre in the Dark") for an additional 6 weeks, January 5 through February 9. With the audience and actors bathed in complete darkness, the imagination and senses are left to soar.

Pianist Inon Barnatan Plays 92Y Tonight

Pianist Inon Barnatan will perform works inspired by stories and poems that explore the interconnection of darkness and light in a solo recital at the 92nd Streety Y's Kauffman Concert Hall tonight, December 6, 2012 at 7:30 pm. Part of the four-concert series, Masters of the Keyboard, the program includes a selection of musically diverse pieces including Debussy's Suite Bergamasque, Stevenson's Fantasy on Britten's Peter Grimes, Thomas Ades's Darknesse Visible, Ravel's La valse, and Schubert's Sonata in A major, D. 959.

THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK Opens at Milwaukee Rep Today, 10/26

Anne Frank's remarkable diary has become an essential tool for understanding one of the darkest periods of our history - and one of the most beautiful, haunting stories in our shared experience. The play is dramatized from the book by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Making her Rep directorial debut, KJ Sanchez will direct the play. The cast features Associate Artists Jonathan Gillard Daly, Laura Gordon, Lee E. Ernst, James Pickering and Deborah Staples and guest actors J. Alexander Coe, Kelley Faulkner, Larry Neumann, Jr., and rising Chicago actress Lauren Hirte in the title role. Rep Artistic Intern Ensemble Members Jonathan Altman, Emily Berman, Jess Prichard and J.R. Yancher are also in this production. The Diary of Anne Frank runs in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse from October 23 - December 2 and opens Today, October 26.

The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble presents the world premiere of Theatre in the Dark, a unique theatrical experience made up of two separate evenings: "DARK" (opening tonight, Oct. 20) and "MORE DARK" (opening Nov. 3), with both evenings running in repertory through December 16 at the Odyssey Theatre in West Los Angeles.

The Vilcek Foundation Presents the Winner and Finalists of the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise at Joyce SoHo, 11/15-18

The Vilcek Foundation will present Pivotal Works: The Vilcek Foundation Project, a four-night series of dance performances at Joyce SoHo from November 15-18, featuring the talents of the 2012 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Dance winner and finalists. The purpose of the Prize is to recognize contributions by foreign-born dance professionals in the United States. Leading off this program on November 15 & 16 will be the prize finalists Fanny Ara (France), Thang Dao (Vietnam), Alice Gosti (Italy) and Pontus Lidberg (Sweden). Showcasing a variety of dance styles, these choreographers will demonstrate both the cultural and artistic diversity of the contemporary dance field across genres such as modern, flamenco and experimental. Following the finalists program will be a two-night engagement, on November 17 & 18, by the Creative Promise Prize winner, Ivory Coast-born choreographer Michel Kouakou.

The Kennedy Center hosts its 11th annual Page-to-Stage new play festival from today, September 1, 2012 to Monday, September 3, 2012, featuring more than 40 theaters from the D.C. metropolitan area, all with a mission to produce and support new work. The three-day, Center-wide event offers a series of free readings and open rehearsals of plays and musicals being developed by local, regional, and national playwrights, librettists, and composers.
