East End artists will be in the spotlight at the 23rd Art Miami, anchor art fair for the city of Miami. Art Miami, the premiere international contemporary and modern art fair, has long been recognized for its high quality presentation of important artworks for the serious international collector. So, it is no surprise that many of the galleries participating will be including works by acclaimed artists from the East End of Long Island alongside such great artists of the 20th & 21st Centuries such as Picasso, Damien Hirst, Raoul Dufy, Chagall, Jean Michel Basquiat, Milton Avery, Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauschenberg and scores more of the art world's most celebrated names. Last summer Art Miami presented the wildly successful inaugural Art Southampton that proved to be a game-changer on the Hamptons cultural landscape.

New York City's Cultural Community Responds to Hurricane Sandy

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, New York City cultural organizations have provided crucial support for communities in need and continue to offer services and programs to aid and inspire New Yorkers. Artists and arts groups have presented free or discount exhibitions and performances, opened their spaces for people to warm up and charge electronics, developed benefit events, and supported their fellow cultural organizations whose collections and facilities were damaged by the storm. These remarkable relief efforts are helping neighborhoods and New Yorkers in all five boroughs.

On Veterans Day (Today, November 11) and the following day (Monday, November 12), active and retired members of any branch of the U.S. armed forces will be admitted free of charge, along with one guest each, to The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Cloisters museum and gardens upon presentation of their military identification. November 12 is a Met Holiday Monday, when the Metropolitan's main building and The Cloisters-which have historically been closed on Mondays-will both be open to the public. Regular admission policies will apply to all other visitors.

CELLBLOCK I & CELLBLOCK II Exhibitions Postponed at Andrea Rosen Gallery

Andrea Rosen Gallery will be postponing the opening of its Cellblock I & Cellblock II exhibition, curated by Robert Hobbs, that was scheduled to open on November 3rd. At this stage, the gallery is hopeful to be back open in approximately two-to-three weeks' time. The gallery will send an updated announcement as it learns more information. In the meantime, Andrea Rosen Gallery's thoughts and best wishes go out to all who have been affected by the storm.

Brooklyn Museum Presents Masterpieces from Arts of the Americas Collection, Opening January 18

Life, Death and Transformation in the Americas will present one hundred-two masterpieces from the Arts of the Americas permanent collection that exemplify the concept of transformation as part of the religious beliefs and social practices of the region's indigenous peoples. Themes of life, death, fertility, regeneration, and spiritual transformation will be explored through pre-Columbian and historical artworks including twenty-one objects that have not been on public view for decades or have never been exhibited. This long-term installation, which will open on January 18, will be on display in the Museum's recently re-opened galleries on the fifth floor adjacent to American Identities.
