Spring Awakening, Broadway's Tony Award-winning musical held a special benefit concert to support SafePlace. The December 15th concert featured the current cast of the Broadway show as well as special guests, original cast members Tony-Award nominee Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and Lili Cooper.

Upright Cabaret producers/hosts Chris Isaacson and Shane Scheel proudly present Broadway star and Los Angeles native Eden Espinosa in her first solo effort entitled EDEN ESPINOSA - ME to be directed by Broadway & recording star Billy Porter with Ben Toth taking over Music Direction. During the last month of Wicked's run at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, where she is currently starring as Elphaba, Espinosa will take off the green to perform four solo concerts which will feature a different special guest each night. In a true 'Coast to Coast' moment - SPRING AWAKENING's Hunter Parrish (Melchior) met up with Kyle Riabko (also Melchior) after a performance of Spring Awakening at The Ahmanson Theater this week. Hunter was in town for a very quick trip, and stopped in to see the show, and visit and swap stories with them after the show - then back to NYC and the Great White Way! The National Tour of Spring Awakening continues through this weekend in Los Angeles, and then is booked through the end of 2009 all across the country.

TheatreWorks has announced that Kent Nicholson will be leaving his post as Director of New Works to become the Director of Musical Theatre Development at Playwrights Horizons. He will be transitioning into the position as a job share until March of 2009, where he is replacing the recently departed Christie Evangalisto. His position there was cemented by the Mellon Foundation's recent $2 million grant to Playwrights Horizons to establish collaborations with regional theatres to develop new musicals, an area in which Nicholson has excelled for TheatreWorks, where he has led the charge, establishing the New Works Festival and Writers Retreat programs as sources for the development of works of national importance.
