Centenary College of Louisiana has been chosen as the home of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Region VI for the next three years. Nearly 1,200 students and faculty representing a six-state region will congregate in Shreveport during the week-long festival this February 26-March 2 to celebrate the finest and most diverse work produced in college and university drama programs.

Canton Theatrical will present two staged presentations of PLOP, the all-new boy band musical about the meteoric rise of the super groups and pop princesses of the 1990s. Set against the backdrop of 90s pop music and suggested by the true story behind the sound that defined a generation, PLOP features music and lyrics by Damon Intrabartolo (bare, Fantastic Four, Superman Returns) and a revised book by Kenneth Finkle (Alive and Well, Indoor/Outdoor) with direction by Anthony J. Cantalupo.

Spring Awakening, winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, will open Olney Theatre Center 75th Anniversary Season playing on the Mainstage February 7 - March 10, 2013.

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, today announced complete casting for the company's upcoming new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical PASSION, to be directed by John Doyle (director of the acclaimed Broadway revivals of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and Company). Joining previously announced Melissa Errico (Clara), Judy Kuhn (Fosca) and Ryan Silverman (Giorgio) in the production are Stephen Bogardus (Colonel Ricci), Jeffry Denman (Lieutenant Barri), Jason Michael Evans (Private Augenti), Amy Justman (understudy), Ken Krugman (Lieutenant Torasso), Orville Mendoza (Sergeant Lombardi), Tom Nelis (Doctor Tambourri) and Will Reynolds (Major Rizzoli/Ludovic). PASSION is slated to begin performances on February 8, 2013 at CSC (136 East 13th Street), with an official press opening scheduled for Thursday, February 28, playing a limited engagement through Sunday, April 7. Tickets will go on sale to the public beginning at Noon on Thursday, January 3.

Multi-award winning Foothill Music Theatre and Foothill Theatre Arts presents SPRING AWAKENING. Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, this groundbreaking musical with its bold rock score is a universal coming of age story that tells the timeless story of teenage self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers. SPRING AWAKENING, with music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater, will be directed by Milissa Carey, with musical direction by Mark Hanson and Choreography by Amanda Folena.

Today we are talking to a tremendously talented triple-threat star all about her many recent and upcoming endeavors, including the forthcoming feature films ADDICTED, 1982 and THE LAST LETTER, as well as the pilot for a new TV series, GUILTY, and, of course, her debut solo album project - the magnetic and beautiful Sharon Leal. In addition to discussing many aspects of her films to date and her starry assortment of co-stars and collaborators on them - Jennifer Hudson, Bill Condon, Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson, Pam Grier, Chris Brown, McG and Cuba Gooding, Jr. included - Leal and I also discuss her theatrically-attuned work thus far in her career, having appeared on Broadway in RENT, as well as in starring in BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY, regional work and in a prominent featured role as part of the big screen film adaptation of DREAMGIRLS. Auden. THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE will begin performances Thursday, May 2 at CSC (136 East 13th Street) for a limited engagement. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, April 2.

New York Stage and Film's annual Winter Gala was held yesterday, Sunday, December 9, 2012, at The Plaza Hotel (770 Fifth Avenue, New York City), honoring Tony Award Winning producer Roger Horchow (Annie), and Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award Winning actor Tony Shalhoub ("Monk"). Today in 2006, Spring Awakening opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 859 performances. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the controversial German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for some time due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Set in late-19th century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score.The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards, including Tonys for Best Musical, Direction, Book, Score and Featured Actor. The production also garnered 4 Drama Desk Awards whilst its original cast album received a Grammy Award.
