The world premiere of STRAIGHT, a new play written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola, directed by Andy Sandberg (Application Pending), is currently in previews at The Acorn Theatre @ Theatre Row and opens February 29 for a run through May 8, 2016. Complete casting for the world premiere of STRAIGHT, a new play written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola and directed by Andy Sandberg (Application Pending), was announced today. Jenna Gavigan (Broadway's Gypsy, "The Good Wife") will play "Emily," joining previously announced cast members Jake Epstein (Broadway's Beautiful, "Degrassi") as "Ben" and introducing Thomas E. Sullivan as "Chris."

We're just three days into the New Year, and we can't wait for all the new shows set to open around the corner from Broadway! Cabaret patroness Madame Mathieu has chosen Ryann Redmond (Bring It On) and Jason Michael Snow (The Book of Mormon) to headline her soiree at The Duplex on January 14th. The eclectic evening will feature rising stars in stand-up, poetry, dance, songwriting, and performance art while Redmond and Snow accept creative dares that arise from Mme. M's insane imagination. A variety show with an avant garde twist, the Soiree is as unpredictable as the patroness herself.

Each December Stray Dog Theatre chooses an unconventional show to celebrate the season. It's always something unusual, and often something somewhat shocking. I like that idea of going against the grain, and giving audiences relief from the Christmas overload that all forms of media utilize at this time of year. To close out 2015, they've chosen the campy and wildly over the top DEVIL BOYS FROM BEYOND, a sort of mash-up of ideas plucked from 1950's and early 60's science fiction fare like Mars Needs Women and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. There's also an early effort from the UK called Devil Girl from Mars, which may have provided inspiration for authors Buddy Thomas and Kenneth Elliott (music and original sound design by Drew Fornarola). Whatever the case, this is a truly nutty, whacked-out comedy that has something to offend everyone, but somehow rises above its initial shock value with allusions to equal pay for women, and the need for the acceptance of alternative lifestyles. Stray Dog Theatre's latest yuletide foray is a delightfully twisted blast from the past!

Sullivan, STRAIGHT begins previews on February 9, 2016, with an opening night currently scheduled for February 29, 2016. STRAIGHT will run through May 8, 2016. (mostly)musicals returned to The E Spot Lounge on Monday, August 24, 2015 for LUCKY NUMBER 13 (a cabaret that COUNTS). The diverse musical selections all featured numbers, and were performed by an exponentially talented array of singers under the music direction of the award winning Gregory Nabours.
