Today in 1981, Dreamgirls opened at the Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 1521 performances. Based upon the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and others, the musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called 'The Dreams', who become music superstars. It was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and won six. It was later adapted into a motion picture from DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures in 2006.

According to Deadline.com, Paramount has set Anchorman 2's release date for December 20, 2013.

Maureen McGovern - the two time Grammy Award nominated vocalist and actress - will perform her acclaimed show 'Home For The Holidays' in New York with an exclusive engagement at 54 Below from tonight, December 18 to 23. McGovern will present an evening featuring songs of the season, some unexpected, and some traditional "chestnuts." Entertainment executive and philanthropist David Geffen has established an unprecedented $100 million scholarship fund that will cover the entire cost of education for the very best medical students attending the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM). The school was named in his honor after his $200 million unrestricted gift in 2002. With this recent gift, Geffen's total philanthropic support to UCLA exceeds $300 million, making him the largest individual donor to UCLA and to any single UC campus.

Tony Award-winning producers Junkyard Dog Productions and Hal Luftig announced today that they will present a reading of the new musical FIRST DATE today, December 14, 2012. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes Awards this morning, live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Among the nominations was the hit NBC musical drama SMASH, which was given a nod for Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical. SMASH stars Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty commented on the news this morning.

Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, and Ed Helms joined the Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Dr. Aida Takla-O'Reilly at the Beverly Hilton Hotel this morning to announce the nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes Awards, and NBC's SMASH earned a nod for Best Comedy Series.

Golden Globe winner Tina Fey (NBC's "30 Rock") and Golden Globe nominee Amy Poehler (NBC's "Parks and Recreation") have signed to host NBC's exclusive coverage of "The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards" that will be broadcast live coast-to-coast on Sunday, January 13. The Berlin Film Festival has announced the names of the first film titles that will compete at the 63rd event in February, 2013. Included in the line-up will be the premiere of Gus Van Sant's Promised Land starring and written by, Matt Damon and John Krasinski. DreamWorks Animation's The Croods will also premiere at the event, running from February 7-17.
