There is one undeniable quality that HAIRSPRAY has retained as it has journeyed from the big screen to the stage, back to the big screen, and now to the small. The infectious excitement and optimism that Tracy Turnblad sings with in the opening number, 'Good Morning Baltimore,' is one of the most magical and important gifts that the musical theatre has given in recent decades. From the moment that the original musical burst onto Broadway in 2002, it has been a literal and figurative rainbow of joy and happiness, and fortunately for the show's legions of fans, directed by Tony-winner Kenny Leon, NBC's live adaptation has maintained every delightful ounce of the musical's giddy goodness.

Hey there, teenage Baltimore (and St. Louis, Detroit, Houston, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, New York, and pretty much every other city out there in America!) Don't change that channel! 'Cause every for just one afternoon night when the clock strikes four eight, you can shake it, shake it, shake with the nicest kids in town (and the best of Broadway!) during tonight's high-octane broadcast of NBC's HAIRSPRAY LIVE! Yup... you can't stop the motion of the ocean or the rain from above, and you definitely can't stop the influx of tweets that will no doubt be pouring in throughout the duration of the live show! As has become an annual tradition, everyone will presumably throw in their two cents and chime in on the action via Twitter.... and Broadway's best and brightest are certainly no exception!

The first was the 1988 original film, the second was the 2002 Broadway musical, the third was its 2007 film adaptation, and then the 2016 live television production on NBC. As a Welcome to the 60's, let's go back to beginning to learn the history of the property itself.

Following last year's successful effort to add video description services to NBC's musical production The Wiz Live!, Comcast NBCUniversal will continue its commitment to accessible programming by offering video description with NBC's national broadcast of Hairspray Live! on December 7 at 8pm.

As they gear up for the live event on December 7th at 8/7c, the cast chats about what Hairspray means to them, how it feels to be part of this live telecast, and why Hairspray is so important today.

The original soundtrack recording of HAIRSPRAY LIVE! includes studio recordings of all the musical numbers that are performed by the cast members in the live broadcast and is now available to stream on iTunes (click here) and Spotify (click here)

On December 2, 2016 Masterworks Broadway/Epic Records will release 'Hairspray LIVE! Original Soundtrack Of The NBC Television Event' the companion album to NBC's broadcast of 'Hairspray Live!' which will air on Wednesday December 7, 2016 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Darren Criss will be the conduit for the millions of fans watching NBC's monumental three-hour production on the network and as well as for those following the goings-on via Facebook Live.

Samantha Womack, Les Dennis and Carrie Hope Fletcher will star as Morticia, Fester and Wednesday Addams in the UK & Irish premiere of THE ADDAMS FAMILY when the musical comedy arrives in Glasgow in October 2017.

Tickets will be on sale from 11am on Wednesday 23 November to Friends Of The Grand and 11am on Friday 25 November for general sale.
