Kiln Theatre Announces Productions For 2020

With her production of the world première of Anupama Chandrasekhar's When the Crows Visit in rehearsals, Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham today announces Pass Over, A Museum in Baghdad and The Glee Club which will be staged at Kiln Theatre in 2020, following the previously announced Snowflake by Mike Bartlett.

Theater Alliance Production Of DAY OF ABSENCE Kicks Off Season Of Revolutions

The first production of Theater Alliance's mainstage theater season, DAY OF ABSENCE by Douglas Turner Ward, confronts the troubled origins of American theatre head-on in a feisty, stereotype-bashing evening of comedy, music, and performance. The production opens on October 11, 2019, following a week of previews beginning October 5. It is the first professional production of this play to appear on a Washington, DC stage.

Pasadena's Free Reading Festival Returns July 26-28!

A Noise Within (ANW) is proud to announce the return of its Words Within Resident Artist Reading Festival from July 26 through July 28, 2019. ANW will partner with three Los Angeles-based theatre companies, Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble, East West Players, and Latino Theater Company, for the free reading festival, titled inVision. A Noise Within and its festival partners will produce eight staged readings over the course of three days at ANW's East Pasadena campus. This is the second reading festival ANW has produced. ANW's first reading festival, The American Dream, launched the classic repertory theatre company's 25th anniversary season when it premiered in summer 2016. The festival is an extension of ANW's popular Words Within reading series, which began over 10 years ago and to date has produced 46 staged reading performances by the company's resident artists.

PASS OVER Makes California Premiere at Echo Theater Company

Moses and Kitch stand around on the corner - talking smack, passing the time, and hoping that today a miracle will come. The Echo Theater Company presents theWest Coast premiere of Pass Over, the 2019 Lucille Lortel award-winning play by Antoinette Nwanduthat mashes up Waiting for Godotwith the Exodus saga - a rare piece of politically charged theater by a bold new American voice.Deena Selenow directs for a July 13 opening at Atwater Village Theatre. Pay-what-you-want previews begin July 10, and performances continue through Aug. 19.

Negro Ensemble Presents IMMINENTLY YOURS by Karimah

Dorothi Fox and Arthur French will star in the premiere of 'Imminently Yours' by Karimah, to be presented by The Negro Ensemble Company (NEC) from June 17 to 30 at Theatre 80, 80 St. Marks Place.

Mixed Magic Theatre To Begin New Performance Series RISE TO BLACK

The new performance series, Rise To Black, starts in February, featuring great scenes from the stages of some of the most memorable Black Theater. Since its founding in 2000 Mixed Magic Theatre has presented a wide range of some of Black theatre's greatest plays, in addition to creating celebrated iconic black figures in some of the company's original works.

As Douglas Turner Ward, the author of 'Day of Absence,' explains it, 'The time is now. The play opens in an unnamed Southern town of medium population on a somnolent cracker morning - meaning no matter the early temperature, it's gonna get hot. The hamlet is just beginning to rouse itself from the sleepy lassitude of night.'

BWW Review: Finely Built FENCES at Karamu

August Wilson is considered one of the most prolific sources for documenting the twentieth century African-American experience. His ten-play cycle, basically set in Pittsburgh's Hill district, started with 'Gem of the Ocean,' representing the 1900s and ended with 'Radio Golf,' shining the spotlight on the 1990s. 'Fences,' which is now on stage at the newly renovated Jelliffe Theatre at Karamu, was the 1950s representative.

Audible Will Award $5 Million in Commissions to Emerging Playwrights

Audible Inc., the world's largest producer and provider of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word entertainment, today announced the first class of theater commissions selected to receive support from its fund dedicated to the commission and development of innovative English-language works from playwrights around the globe. Announced earlier this year, the $5 million fund will enable the creation of one- and two-person audio plays driven by language and voice, in keeping with Audible's core commitment to elevating listening experiences through powerful performances of brilliantly composed words.

Joe Sirola Gets Immortalized In Cement At The Historic 80 Saint Mark's Place

The sidewalk in front of Theatre 80 Saint Marks Place has been called the "East Coast Grauman's", and Fodor's Travel magazine calls it 'one of the eight things to see in the USA.' On Sunday, February 18, from 4:00-6:00pm, star of stage, screen, television and one of New York's legendary bonhomie, Joe Sirola, will add his signature and handprints to the historic sidewalk.
