The Board of Directors of Opera Santa Barbara is pleased to announce that its Artistic Director, Kostis Protopapas has accepted additional responsibilities as General Director for the organization. At their November 27th meetings, the Executive Committee and the full board unanimously approved a proposal to create a new position for Mr. Protopapas as both Artistic and General Director.
AOP (American Opera Projects) and Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood have selected six composers and three librettists to receive fellowships for its upcoming ninth season of Composers & the Voice. The 2017-2019 season will train, and present new works from, composers Matthew Browne, Scott Ordway, Frances Pollock, Pamela Stein Lynde, Liliya Ugay, and Amber Vistein and librettists Laura Barati, Kim Davies, and Sokunthary Svay. The primary focus of Composers & the Voice is to give emerging composers and librettists experience working collaboratively with singers on writing for the voice and contemporary opera stage.

Central City Opera continues its 2017 summer festival with the opening of a new production of Cosi fan tutte, Mozart's comedic opera about love, deceit, and fidelity, which runs in repertory in the Central City Opera House from July 15 through August 4.
Central City Opera's 2017 Summer Festival, which runs from July 8 through August 6, features Bizet's Carmen and Mozart's Così fan tutte performed in repertory in the historic Central City Opera House, and three one-act operas with limited runs—Britten's The Burning Fiery Furnace, Douglas Moore's Gallantry, and Amy Beach's Cabildo—performed in smaller venues located around the town of Central City. Complementing these five widely different operas are pre-performance lectures and talkbacks, staged opera scenes, elegant opening night dinners, and post-performance socials, which make for a full and enriching experience of entertainment and culture in one of Colorado's most historic mountain settings.

The Manhattan School of Music Opera Theater will be presenting Ernest Bloch's Macbeth on Wednesday, December 10 and Friday, December 12 at 7:30 pm.; and on Sunday, December 14 at 2:30 p.m. in the School's Borden Auditorium. Bloch's only opera, composed when the composer was in his early 20's, is set to a libretto by the composer's friend, the poet Edmond Fleg, after Shakespeare's play.

Created and led by Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood, six composers or composer/librettist teams will be selected for a year-long fellowship, working with the company's Reside nt Ensemble of Singers and Artistic Team. All sessions will be at AOP's home base in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.
