THE POLAR EXPRESS Screens at THT, 12/8

A young boy wants to believe in Santa even though his friends have "grown out of it." His faith is rewarded when a magnificent steam train pulls into his yard and carries him to the North Pole. The Polar Express, first released in 2004, has become a favorite of young people of all ages. The cutting-edge "motion capture process" used to film the story converts the work of live actors - including Tom Hanks, Michael Jeter and Peter Scolari - into dazzling animation. The film is a visual feast, unlike any other holiday family movie.

Town Hall Theatre Screens THE LAST OF THE HAUSSMANS, 10/11

British star Julie Walters plays Judy Haussman in The Last of the Haussmans--a funny, touching and sometimes savage portrait of a family that's losing its grip. Anarchic, feisty but growing old, she remains in spirit with the Ashrams of the 1960s while holding court in her dilapidated Art Deco house on the Devon coast. After an operation, she's joined by wayward offspring Nick and Libby, sharp-eyed granddaughter Summer, local doctor Peter, and Daniel, a troubled teenager who makes use of the family's crumbling swimming pool. Together they share a few sweltering months in this chaotic world of all-day drinking, infatuations, long-held resentments, free love and failure.

BWW Reviews: THE BEAMS ARE CREAKING - A Compelling Character Study

The Beams are Creaking is a dramatic representation of the tumultuous life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a man who became a Christian martyr of Nazi resistance because of his unyielding faith. Bonhoeffer is a German pastor who tried to assassinate Hitler, but is ultimately a more complex character than one may expect given that information. This is where the A.D. Players and Douglas Anderson, the playwright, step in and deliver a compelling character study of the infamous theologian.
