The critically acclaimed theatre will present the high stakes musical comedy GUYS AND DOLLS, previewing January 26, opening February 2, running through March 27; the song and tap extravaganza 42nd STREET, previewing March 30, opening April 6, running through May 29; a new twist on the 60s hit parade SHOUT! previews June 15, opens June 22, runs through August 14; a world premiere musical FOR THE BOYS, based on the 1991 Fox film starring Bette Midler, previewing August 17, opening August 24, and running through October 16; and the "brand-new, old-fashioned" Irving Berlin musical treasure WHITE CHRISTMAS, previewing October 16, opening October 26, and running through January 1, 2012.

Goodman Theatre celebrates its 10th season in Chicago's North Loop Theatre District with a fresh take on an enduring masterpiece- Candide, Voltaire's effervescent, picaresque adventure, newly adapted and directed by Chicago's own Mary Zimmerman, the Goodman's Manilow Resident Director. A cast of 19 and an orchestra of 12, under the direction of Music Director Doug Peck, bring to life nearly 30 songs in Leonard Bernstein's glorious score, and recreate Voltaire's satirical story of Candide (Geoff Packard)-a young optimist shipwrecked, soldiered, swindled and separated (repeatedly) from his true love, Cunegonde (Lauren Molina). For this major revival, Zimmerman has tapped her signature design team-Daniel Ostling (Set), Mara Blumenfeld (Costumes), T.J. Gerkens (Lighting) and Richard Woodbury (Sound). Danny Pelzig choreographs the cataclysmic events that ensue.

Writers' Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma announce the second extension of Oh Coward!, words and music by Noel Coward, devised by Roderick Cook. The production, which began its run in November 2009 is directed by Jim Corti, with musical direction by Doug Peck. The production has been extended through April 18, 2010, at Writers' Theatre, 664 Vernon Avenue in Glencoe.

This north suburban theater in the round (well, square, really) has a long history of producing the first Chicago area version of Broadway musicals newly released for licensing, usually soon after the end of a national tour.
