LA Opera to Present MADAME BUTTERFLY, 3/12

(Los Angeles) February 22, 2016 — LA Opera's 30th Anniversary Season continues with Giacomo Puccini's beloved Madame Butterfly, starring soprano Ana María Martínez as Cio-Cio-San.

Political Mockumentary Film RON AND LAURA TAKE BACK AMERICA to Debut in NYC This Spring

RON AND LAURA TAKE BACK AMERICA, a new political mockumentary satire that tackles many of the issues enveloping the current election season, is set to make its New York City premiere beginning March 25 at Cinema Village (22 East 12th Street, NYC), following a run in Los Angeles (March 9 premiere, and running March 18-24).

LA Master Chorale to Present West Coast Premiere of 2015 Pulitzer-Winning ANTHRACITE FIELDS

The acclaimed Bang on a Can All-Stars join the Los Angeles Master Chorale for the highly anticipated west coast premiere of Julia Wolfe's 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning Anthracite Fields, on Sunday, March 6, 2016, 7:30 pm.  Performed with a multimedia backdrop by celebrated visual artist and scenic designer Jeff Sugg, the text weaves together the oral histories, interviews, union speeches and even accident reports from the Pennsylvania mining region at the turn of the 19th century.  Additionally, the program, entitled "Music of the Coal Miner" and led by Artistic Director Grant Gershon, includes selections from the Sacred Harp Anthology and spirituals of Appalachia.

Leading Soloists Join LA Master Chorale for Verdi's REQUIEM Today

The Los Angeles Master Chorale, led by Artistic Director Grant Gershon, presents two performances of Verdi's towering Requiem, a work National Public Radio calls a 'thrilling opera in disguise,' with acclaimed guest soloists Amber Wagner, soprano, Michelle DeYoung, mezzo soprano, Issachah Savage, tenor, and Morris Robinson, bass, today, January 30, 2 pm, and tomorrow, Sunday, January 31, 2016, 7 pm, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. A stunningly theatrical staple of the choral repertoire, Verdi's work is a tumultuous, tortured, terrifying spectacle that has thrilled audiences since its debut in 1874.

LA Opera Announces 2016/17 Season - MACBETH, AKHNATEN, 30th Birthday Celebration and More!

General Director Plácido Domingo has announced the repertory and artist roster for the company's 2016/17 season. Created by Mr. Domingo in collaboration with Music Director James Conlon and President and CEO Christopher Koelsch, the season will include six mainstage productions and a classic musical presented at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. A total of 40 performances will take place in that venue, while an additional 13 performances will be presented elsewhere through the company's Off Grand initiative.

Opera star Erwin Schrott returns to LA Opera for an extraordinary concert event, Cuba Amiga. Mr. Schrott will be joined by an ensemble of outstanding classical and jazz musical friends from around the world, including special guest José Feliciano, the legendary singer and guitarist. Taking the audience on a musical journey through Latin America, Cuba Amiga delivers a thrilling international spectrum of Latin rhythms: bolero, salsa, flamenco, timba, rumba, cha-cha, samba and tango. The performance will take place at 7:30pm tonight, December 12, 2015, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, 90012).

Spanish Harlem Orchestra to Perform at 56th annual LA County Holiday Celebration

The Los Angeles County Arts Commission has announced that two-time Grammy Award-winning salsa and Latin jazz band Spanish Harlem Orchestra will be this year's special guest at the L.A. County Holiday Celebration, opening the Emmy Award-winning, 56th annual free 3-hour seasonal spectacular at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center on Thursday, December 24 at 3 p.m.

SF Opera Premieres Gordon Getty's USHER HOUSE Tonight

Composer Gordon Getty's opera Usher House will receive its United States premiere as part of San Francisco Opera's double bill titled The Fall of the House of Usher in four performances, tonight, December 8 to 13, 2015. The Getty opera, a co-production with Welsh National Opera, will be paired with Robert Orledge's reconstruction of Debussy's uncompleted score, La Chute de la Maison Usher.
