ProArteDanza Artistic Director Roberto Campanella and Artistic Associate Robert Glumbek co-create a new instalment for their long-term project to choreograph a full evening work to Beethoven's entire 9th Symphony. In a stunning marriage of unforgettable music and the all-out athleticism of ProArteDanza's outstanding dancers, Beethoven's 9th - 2nd Movement builds on the great success of their previous choreographies to the 1st and 3rd movement of Beethoven's masterpiece. 

Toronto's DanceWorks to Present World Premiere of WOVEN, 9/24

TORONTO (August 27, 2015) - DanceWorks, Toronto's longest running contemporary dance series, proudly presents the first show of its  39th season: the world premiere of Woven, a Tribal Crackling Wind production choreographed by award-winning Artistic Director, choreographer Peter Chin. A major new work that reflects the spirit of traditional weaving communities, Woven premieres Thursday, September 24 and runs to Saturday, September 26 at 8pmnightly at Harbourfront Centre Theatre as part of NextSteps. Tickets are now on sale.

Flamenco Festival to Celebrate 25 Years with Line-Up of International Artists

The Vancouver International Flamenco Festival (Flamenco Festival) is delighted to announce the official line up for its electrifying 25th anniversary season, September 12-27, 2015 with free and paid events at various venues on Granville Island and throughout Vancouver. This year's festival highlights include dazzling performances by some of the world's leading flamenco dancers and musicians, including the internationally acclaimed Andrés Peña & Pilar Ogalla Company (Spain), the renowned Canadian Esmeralda Enrique Dance Company (Toronto) and Fiona Malena Flamenco (Calgary), in addition to Vancouver's own award-winning Flamenco Rosario.

Alexander Neef, General Director of the Canadian Opera Company, announced today the commission of a new opera for its mainstage by one of Canada's most important composers, Ana Sokolovi?. Titled La Reine-Garçon, the libretto is by Quebec playwrightMichel Marc Bouchard and based on his play of the same name. Inspired by Queen Christina of Sweden who ruled the country in the 17th century before abdicating her throne at the age of 27, La Reine-Garçonis currently in development and is scheduled to have its world premiere in the COC's 2019/2020 season.

Canadian Stage Celebrates Surplus for Third Consecutive Year

In an annual report released today, Canadian Stage announced the company's third consecutive budget surplus following an award-winning and record-breaking season. This year under the leadership of artistic & general director Matthew Jocelyn, managing director Su Hutchinson and board chair Adrian Lang, Canadian Stage saw an increase in new subscribers and audiences under the age of 35; toured productions internationally; introduced a range of new audience engagement initiatives; continued to revitalize the historic Berkeley Street Theatre, and much more.

Kaeja d'Dance Presents the Choreographers for PORCH VIEW DANCES

Kaeja d'Dance is pleased to announce the choreographers for the return of the award-winning Porch View Dances (PVD) dance project, conceived by Karen Kaeja and developed with Allen Kaeja. Peter Chin, Lauren Cook, Allen Kaeja, Karen Kaeja, Louis Laberge-Côté and Brandy Leary are all creating works for Porch View Dances which runs July 16-20 in Seaton Village in downtown Toronto.

It was an incredible night for Toronto theatre when our community joined together to celebrate another year of performing arts in Toronto on the evening of June 23rd at the WestJet Stage at the Harbourfront Centre for the 35th Annual Dora Awards! For the 2013-2014 season, 143 producing companies (up 41 from last season's 102) registered eligible productions. A total of 48 Dora Awards, plus the Silver Ticket Award and the Audience Choice Award, were given out in a glittering ceremony hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus, founding Co-Artistic Directors of the three-time Canadian Comedy Award-winning The National Theatre of the World.

The 2014 Tony Awards and the Toronto Connection

Last year BroadwayWorld Toronto brought you the Toronto Tony Awards Connection - recapping which Tony nominated performances our local audiences may have seen. I've decided we're going to continue that tradition this year. Two Tony Award nominated productions had pre-Broadway engagements in Toronto this year: LES MISERABLES and Disney's ALADDIN.

World renowned American soprano Sondra Radvanovsky returns to the Canadian Opera Company this spring in the ultimate diva role, Queen Elizabeth I, for the COC premiere of Donizetti's Roberto Devereux. The tumultuous final days of the reign of the Virgin Queen are depicted in this powerful drama of show-stopping vocal fireworks, directed by Stephen Lawless and conducted by Corrado Rovaris. Roberto Devereux is sung in Italian with English SURTITLES and runs for seven performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts today, April 25, 29, May 3, 10, 15, 18, 21, 2014.

Matt Baram & Naomi Snieckus to Host 35th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards at Harbourfront Centre, 6/23

The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) today announced the date, creative team and an exciting new venue for the 35th anniversary of the Dora Mavor Moore Awards which celebrate extraordinary Toronto talent in the performing arts. The award ceremony will take place on June 23 and, for the very first time, will be held at Harbourfront Centre. The new outdoor venue will offer additional seating for this consistently sold-out event under the stars at the WestJet Stage, a 1,300-seat outdoor concert venue covered by a transparent roof with open sides.

Acting Up Stage Company, Angelwalk Theatre and Theatre 20 Team Up to Celebrate Toronto's Musical Theatre Community!

Toronto's three favourite not-for-profit musical theatre companies have joined forces to create 'And 5, 6, 7, 8... A Musical Theatre Dance Party,' a celebration of the amazing Toronto musical theatre community and an excuse to cut loose and shake your 'Shipoopi'! The event, jointly hosted by Acting Up Stage Company, Angelwalk Theatre and Theatre 20, will take place at the Drake Underground, the Drake Hotel's swanky underground lair (1150 Queen Street West).
