STEINBRENNER! the Play Gets Reading at The Roundabout

Looks like The Roundabout Theatre Company is looking to 'play ball!' following a reading last week of a new play titled STEINBRENNER!, adapted from sportswriter Bill Madden's 2010 book, 'Steinbrenner: The Last Lion of Baseball,' according to the New York Post's Michael Riedel.

Gallery Players Open EQUUS Tonight

Boasting a magnificent slate of actors and highly original design, Gallery's Equus is stampeding on stage tonight, December 7th. Developing a reputation for high-production value among black box theatres, the story of Alan Strang, the boy who has explosively blinded six horses, sets a new standard. Equus is quite a part of the New Gallery, not your same old theatre.

Gallery Players to Stage EQUUS, 12/7-22

Riding the successes of Blithe Spirit and The Pajama Game, the Gallery Players presents Equus as the next production of its 47th Season. Alred Gingold* (Manhattan Theatre Club, Metropolitan Playhouse), leads the cast in the behemoth role of Martin Dysart. Joining him are Dean Thomas and Adelind Horan as Alan Strang and Jill Mason, respectively, in their Gallery premieres. Gallery alumni Rosalind Ashford* (Gallery: History Boys) and Greg Horton* (Gallery: A Man of No Importance; NYIT 2012 Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role) will appear once again as Dora and Frank Strang. After leading The History Boys to success last season, Mark Gallagher will again direct aided by Choreographer Christiana Axlesen. The production will be brought to life under Set Designer Young Jaung, Costume Designer Tony Johnson, Lighting Designer Scott Borowka, Sound Designer Jacob Subotnick, Props Designer Sara Slagle, and Production Stage Manager Kathleen Parker. The cast includes J.B. Alexander, Ryan Arthur, Victoria Bundonis*, Brandon Johnson, Kadeem Melvin, Chris Negron, Ryan Pater, and Lindsay Timmington. *Actors appearing courtesy of Actors Equity Association.

Time-Travel Thriller Forward to Camelot Spotlights Gunrunners' Plot to Kill JFK and Go to War With Cuba

Co-authors Susan Sloate (of Mount Pleasant, SC) and Kevin Finn (of East Windsor, NJ), contend intelligence agents involved with anti-Castro Cuban groups set up a network to steal weapons from military bases and transport them to a CIA station in Miami, where they would eventually be used to invade Cuba again. These rogue groups planned to murder JFK and blame his death on a convenient patsy cleverly set up as a Communist sympathizer.

El Ray Begins Production on TV Adaptation of Robert Rodriguez's FROM DUSK TILL DAWN

El Rey Network in association with FactoryMade Ventures, today announced the production start of 'From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series,' the first scripted original to air on Robert Rodriguez's new genre-busting cable network set to debut this December. Based on his cult classic film of the same name, the supernatural crime saga, hour-long series (which will premiere on El Rey Network in Q1 2014) began filming in Austin this week with Rodriguez set to direct the first two installments.

Alexander Skarsgard, Jamie Dornan in Running to Replace Charlie Hunnam in 50 SHADES OF GREY

According to The Hollywood Reporter, execs are revisting former favorites for the role, including TRUE BLOOD's Alexander Skarsgard and THE FALL's Jamie Dornan. Others being considered are Theo James and Christian Cooke. Garrett Hedlund, a one-time front-runner for the role, is now out of play, having signed on for Angelina Jolie's UNBROKEN.

Breaking News: Charlie Hunnam OUT of 50 SHADES OF GREY Movie

Universal Pictures has just confirmed to Variety that Charlie Hunnam who was to star in the upcoming film version of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY has dropped OUT of the picture, citing the old reliable reason of 'scheduling conflicts' with his FX Series, SONS OF ANARCHY. Hunnam was recently seen on the big screen in the sci-film Pacific Rim.

Jennifer Ehle Boards 50 SHADES OF GREY Movie

Deadline reports that Jennifer Ehle has signed on for the upcoming FIFTY SHADES OF GREY movie. She will join Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam in the film adaptation of EL James' bestselling, steamy book series, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

VENUS IN FUR is Nation's Most-Produced Play for 2013-14 Season

American Theatre magazine, published by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), has released its annual October 'Season Preview' issue, featuring the Top 10 Most-Produced Plays list. Based on the 2013-14 seasons reported by TCG's Member Theatres in Theatre Profiles, the Top 10 list omits holiday themed shows (such as The Santaland Diaries and A Christmas Carol) as well as works by Shakespeare. The issue also features articles on successful playwright and actor relationships, musical adaptations of Shakespeare, and Robert Schenkkan's two plays based on the life of President Lyndon Johnson.
