Chan Centre Presents 10-time Grammy Award Winner Bobby McFerrin in Improvised Concert

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia presents the inimitable, genre-defiant music of Bobby McFerrin on February 17, 2019, at 7pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. The concert will feature Gimme5 - McFerrin's newest band comprised of veterans from his a cappella Voicestra group Joey Blake, Dave Worm, Rhiannon, and Judi Vinar - and local choral ensemble musica intima. The program will be based on Circlesinging, a musical practice and philosophy that McFerrin has been honing since he began as a solo a cappella performer, assigning vocal parts to his onstage collaborators and audience members - transforming sold-out houses into glorious impromptu choirs.

Da Camera presents Chucho Valdés – Jazz Bata

Da Camera of Houston's 2018-19 jazz series continues with a performance by Cuban pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader Chucho Valdes at the Cullen Theater, Wortham Theater Center, on Friday, February 8, 2019, at 8 p.m. Winner of six Grammy Awards, three Latin Grammy Awards and the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences' Lifetime Achievement Award, Valdes has been a key figure in the evolution of Afro-Cuban jazz for the past 50 years.

The Philly POPS To Offer Complimentary Tickets To Furloughed Government Workers

The Philly POPS will offer free tickets for furloughed government employees during the federal government shutdown. Government employees may present their IDs at the Kimmel Center Box Office to receive one free, complimentary pair of tickets to JAZZED! running January 18, 19 and 20 (One pair per Government-issued employee ID).

This performance is a part of The Philly POPS 40th Anniversary Season, which celebrates artists and music with connections to Philadelphia and the POPS.

SCFTA Presents Branford Marsalis Quartet & Yuko Mabuchi Trio

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents an incredible evening of jazz featuring the Branford Marsalis Quartet and Yuko Mabuchi Trio for one performance only on January 25, 2019 at 8:00pm. Led by Jazz Master and Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Branford Marsalis, the quartet was declared by the Associated Press as "one of the most cohesive, intense small jazz ensembles on the scene today." Quartet members include Joey Calderazzo, piano; Eric Revis, bass; and Justin Faulkner, drums. Opening the program is pianist Yuko Mabuchi whose trio of musicians includes Del Atkins on bass and Bobby Breton on drums.
